KUALA LUMPUR: The driver — and engine — were flung out of a vehicle in a fatal crash during bad weather along the Mahameru Highway not far from Istana Negara early this morning.

The 24-year-old driver, who smashed through the windscreen of his Nissan X-Trail, landed 16 metres away while the four-wheel-drive's engine block was detached from its bay in the 2.30am accident on the Sungai Besi-bound lane.

The wet and slippery conditions of the road were unfavourable for car salesman Ang Chee Tee from Bukit Mertajam, Penang, who died on the spot due to severe head injuries after he lost control of his 4WD and crashed into a lamp post on the divider.

After the driver was flung out, his car careened back into the middle of the highway, resulting in a 10-car pile-up.

Four cars were badly damaged, but none of their occupants were seriously injured and did not require any medical treatment.

Police and ambulance arrived at the scene about five minutes later. Ang's body was later sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital mortuary.

A witness, who didn't want to be identified, said: "I couldn't believe my eyes. The moment I saw the engine lying a few metres from the car, I knew it was really, really bad."

Kuala Lumpur public order and traffic chief ACP Rusli Mohd Noor said police have also taken blood samples from the deceased.

In the meantime, The Star Online reported car salesman Ang Chee Tee as Tan Chong executive director's son.
