Now Najib has a diehard fan - Namewee, the 1Malaysia ambassador!

August 31, 2010
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 31 – Controversial song writer Wee Meng Chee presented himself to police here tonight in connection with a probe into whether he committed sedition over a music video he posted on Youtube, and declared himself the personification of Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s 1 Malaysia.
Wee, better known as Namewee, had posted the video which contained trademark utterances of vulgarities and obscenities in response to  an incident involving a Johor school principal who allegedly made racist remarks to her pupils.
He arrived tonight at the Taman Tun Dr Ismail police station in a grey BMW accompanied by his lawyer at 9.20pm.
Namewee, wearing a green shirt with a white beanie cap, told reporters that he was not racist, in response to accusations from Umno politicians.
“It doesn’t mean that If I see something wrong in my country, I will remain quiet because I am Malaysian. I am anti-racism and support 1 Malaysia,” he said in the police station parking lot.
Late last night Namewee posted on his Facebook page that policemen in three patrol cars came to his house in Muar to arrest him.
“3 POLICE CARS FINALLY CAME TO MY MUAR HOME TO ARREST ME***** this happened 15 minutes before our 53rd National Day Celebration, YES, I’m still here but for how long more, I don’t know ... my beloved MALAYSIA, where is our justice system?! (THIS IS NOT A JOKE),” said Namewee in a message that attracted more than 3,000 comments from Facebook users.
However earlier today Johor Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Amer Awal told The Malaysian Insider that there has been no plan yet to arrest Namewee.
“Not true, not true, we are still investigating his case,” Amer told The Malaysian Insider.
Namewee is under investigation for allegedly producing a seditious music video which was uploaded on YouTube.
The video was a reaction to SMK Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra principal Siti Inshah Mansor’s alleged racist remarks to her pupils.
He removed the video from the video sharing site following public disapproval.
The Taiwanese graduate first made headlines in 2007, after he produced a music video purportedly ridiculing the national anthem and the Islamic call for prayer.
The recent video resulted in calls for government to take stern action against Namewee, including arresting him under the ISA and revoking his citizenship.
Namewee said tonight that he believes he has the support of the public.
“This is why I am ready to cooperate with the police officers. I believe that the police will support me in anti-racism and I believe the country will support me,” he said.
“I am mentally healthy, I have no injuries and I will not commit suicide,” he said.
MORE TO COME

great merdeka day! Namwee is caught by damn gov.....

Will 1Malaysia PM do the right thing?

Ok, I just found out that the police have denied that song writer and young filmmaker Wee Meng Chee is under arrest, or that they are pursuing.

namewee name wee 1malaysia film 160310When contacted by Malaysiakini, Muar district police chief Mohammed Nasir Ramli said, "No, no, no. We are not going to arrest him."

Nasir confirmed that the police had indeed go to the youngster's house in Muar yesterday night, but said that it was for other purpose.

Before ending the telephone interview, he tersely said, "We just want to find out where he is."
Yeah, right. Nasir. How believable is that? Just to find out where he was? If he was in the house, then what? Just say 'Hi' and 'Bye'?!

Pakatan is 'more Malay' than Umno-led BN! Pakatan must sapu Putrajaya!

I wonder how many have read or have missed the article below. It appeared in Malaysia Today but originally published at Free Malaysia Today. The article is an-opener on how Umno is trying put fear in Malays by painting a picture that with DAP in Pakatan, the Chinese will dominate politics to the point of Malaysia getting a Chinese prime minister! ;) Well, so what! Even 'mamak' Tun Dr. Mahathir himself had at least once talked about the possibility of Malaysia having a non-Malay Prime Minister.

At the opening the 47th general assembly of the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), the then Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said, "The Malaysian prime minister need not come from the Malays alone, non-Malay bumiputeras (aboriginals) may also become the prime minister of Malaysia one day when Malaysians of Chinese or Indian descent are accepted by all the races...The process towards this end has started. Believe me, if we are all sensitive to the tastes of Malaysians, the issue of race and origin will no longer obstruct any Malaysian from holding any post."
Ok, now read the article below! 8-) Don't miss the para highlighted in pink.

By Zefry Dahalan

COMMENT It is no secret that Umno is on a mission to preserve itself by instilling in Malays a fear of Chinese domination.
Its leaders and spokesmen like to tell the Malays that Umno’s fall would mean the loss of Malay rights and supremacy, which is an oblique way of saying that a vote for the opposition is a vote to hand over power to the Chinese.

They deliver this message not only in political speeches and writings, but also at gatherings of public servants. Many who have attended Biro Tatanegara courses report that the training often places heavy emphasis on the alleged Chinese threat.

Among the most hysterical of the spokesmen mentioned above are the spin doctors who dish out their stuff through the mainstream media, which are all directly or indirectly controlled by Barisan Nasional.

In many of the spins, it is implied that Pakatan Rakyat is synonymous with DAP and that if the opposition coalition wins the next election, Malaysians may get a Chinese prime minister.

It is hard to say whether these Malay rights champions are really that poor in elementary arithmetic or whether they think their listeners or readers cannot count. In the last election, DAP contested only 47 seats and two of its candidates were Malays. In the next election, it is doubtful that it will field enough candidates to make it the biggest party in Parliament even if all those candidates win.

Another politics-of-fear strategy consists in calling for a union between Umno and PAS. The tacit message is that the Malays must unite under one political force to safeguard their interests against the non-Malays and infidels. Under this strategy, PAS is often portrayed as naive for staying on as a partner of Pakatan, which, so the argument goes, is controlled by DAP.

Contrary to the impression one gets from Umno broadcasts and writings, not everyone in that party is a simpleton. Indeed, there are some intelligent and well-educated people in its leadership. So Umno knows very well that even if Pakatan wins all the parliamentary seats, there is no way that any Chinese-based party will dominate the government.

But the idea, of course, is to create a little confusion and a lot of fear among the Malays, especially rural Malays. Unfortunately, this spin is having its desired effect on a surprisingly large number of Malays, including urban Malays.

Misleading spin

A simple study of the candidates’ list in the 2008 election will show how misleading the spin is. If Umno had won 100% of the seats it contested, the number of Malay MPs would be 103. However, if Pakatan had won 100%, there would be 116 Malay Mps.

The PAS leaders who are favourable to the unity talks should realise that if they cooperate with Umno, they may receive support from some pro-Umno voters but will lose much of the votes traditionally given to PAS.
Furthermore, 60% of PAS leaders are against any form of cooperation with Umno. They are with the party’s spiritual head, Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, who is regarded as a godfather by the majority of PAS supporters.

By remaining with Pakatan, PAS is assured not only of a large block of Malay support, but some Chinese and Indian support as well.

Meanwhile, Malay voters must realise that it will not be the end of the world for their race even if Umno is vanquished in the next election. PAS and PKR and even some DAP candidates are there to maintain the Malay power base.

Toll-free on August 31 on LDP: So good but toll + traffic jam on normal days

August 28, 2010
GEMAS, Aug 28 – Motorists will enjoy toll-free rides on the Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP) and 20 per cent discounts on three other expressways on August 31.
Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor said no toll charges would be imposed on all types of vehicles using the LDP from 12.01am to midnight on August 31.
This will benefit about 450,000 vehicles which are using the LDP daily, he told reporters after attending the breaking of fast hosted by Tampin Umno division in Kampung Bangkahulu here today.
“This is the first time a concessionaire provides toll-free rides to show their gratitude to motorists and usher in the 53rd independence day celebration.
“I hope other concessionaires will emulate the LDP,” he added.
Meanwhile, Shaziman said three other concessionaires – Plus Expressway Sdn Bhd, Linkedua Sdn Bhd and Elite Sdn Bhd – had offered 20 per cent discounts to Class 1 motorist (personal car) on August 31 and September 1.
The discounts on the North-South Expressway, Seremban-Port Dickson Expressway, Johor Baharu-Singapore Second Link and the North-South Expressway Central Link are from 12.01am to 7am on both days.
The current discount during these hours on normal days are 10 per cent.
He said, however, motorists entering the Second Link from Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza would not enjoy the discount. – Bernama

So good and LDP should show gratitude to motorists not just once but once a year, every year from this year onwards!

“I’ve been through hell” - Elin Nordegren in interview with People.com

The Irish Times - Saturday, August 28, 2010

Queen of the damned

PROFILE: ELIN NORDEGREN: The former Mrs Woods: ice queen, scorned woman, modern-day Yoko. Or, perhaps, just a woman whose life is the opposite of what she intended, writes Kate Holmquist
ELIN NORDEGREN reportedly once said she wanted to be to Tiger Woods what Yoko Ono was to John Lennon. If ever there was hubris, this was it, because Yoko – a mature and forceful Japanese performance artist who was older than her husband – is not quite comparable to a former swimsuit model who was a 21-year-old nanny when she met her then husband-to-be.
We never got to see any photographs of Nordegren and Woods naked in bed, like those of John and Yoko, but we did get to see a rather spectacular crack-up at Thanksgiving last year. Nordegren’s ambition to be her husband’s guiding light says a lot about the grand role she saw for herself, an ambition as doomed as that of a hot-housed golfing child prodigy expecting to grow up to have a normal life. Perhaps someone should have taken Nordegren aside and whispered, “They hated Yoko, you know.”
Nordegren’s likely $100 million divorce settlement – exaggerated to up to $750 million in some reports – has left her branded as a gold-digger, a 21st-century celebrity courtesan. One laddish US blog has ranked her among “the hottest top 20 spurned wags of all time”, as though being a Wag – short for wives and girlfriends, and coined to describe the other halves of high-profile football players – were a career choice.
One school of thought is that Nordegren played it well and got a good deal, as though falling in love, having your husband’s children – now aged three years and 18 months – then experiencing the emotional devastation and public humiliation of his betrayal with not just one but 19 (at last count) porn stars, waitresses, nightclub hostesses and models were some sort of game. Actually, it’s not just one school of thought; it appears to be the only school of thought.
For this Nordegren may have only herself, or her Swedish culture, to blame. Nordegren’s refusal to speak to the press, even when rumours were rife that she’d attacked Woods with a golf club, prompted one golf writer to quip: “If Tiger is a man of few words, Elin is a woman of no words.” That’s because in Sweden words are chosen carefully and a whisper is as loud as a roar.
Even in Sweden, she has been criticised. One comment on a Swedish news site said Nordegren is “calm like an object . . . Money can’t bring feelings”. Others defended her, believing she was exploited by a womaniser.
The most practical commentators warned her not to return to Sweden, where the tax authorities would take her money as surely as Woods took her dignity. Another felt sorry for her as, with her vast post-divorce fortune, the 30-year-old would have difficulty finding a man who loved her only for herself.
Nordegren’s silence has meant that few people know who she really is. The media has rushed to project male fantasies on this blank screen. The most famous case, internationally, involved none other than the Dubliner magazine, which in 2006 published nude photographs, supposedly of Nordegren, that had already been proven fake. Woods defended his wife’s honour by suing the magazine, which was made to publish grovelling apologies.
Nordegren, who recently purchased a house on an island accessible from Stockholm only by ferry, has shunned the Swedish press as well, despite – or perhaps because of – the fact that her father, Thomas Nordegren, is a prominent radio journalist. Her mother, Barbro Holmberg, is a high-ranking civil servant who was taken to hospital with stress when visiting her daughter at the height of the Thanksgiving storm. These conservative upper-class Swedes must be wondering what they were thinking when they let their gorgeous 20-year-old daughter, whose career to date had been as a checkout girl and occasional model, go off on a gap year on the US pro golf circuit, having been invited by a golfer’s wife to be the family nanny. (Nordegren’s identical twin, Josefin, is a lawyer in London.)
Finally, midweek, perhaps aware that her silence was working against her in terms of public sentiment, Nordegren set the record straight in what she said would be her first and last interview. “I’ve been through hell,” she told People magazine, the celebrity’s paper of record. For the final three and a half years of her six-year marriage she was so busy having babies and caring for them while also pursuing her studies that she “never suspected” what was going on. She was “blindsided” when she learned of Woods’s serial affairs and was, understandably, distraught despite her intention to protect her children from what was going on outside the family home.
“Mommy, where is your boo-boo?” one of her children asked. She hadn’t been crying in front of them, she added, but looked sad, something that anyone who has ever tried to hold it together for the kids can relate to.
Nordegren, who is following her childhood dream of becoming a psychologist, seems to offer a textbook case of post-traumatic grief. “I have been through the stages of disbelief and shock to anger and, ultimately, grief over the loss of the family I so badly wanted for my children,” she said.
When she discovered her husband’s infidelities her first feeling was embarrassment, and for a time she believed she and Woods could repair their relationship. Then one revelation after the next destroyed that confidence. “I felt stupid as more things were revealed. How could I not have known anything? The word ‘betrayal’ isn’t strong enough,” she said.
One can imagine how the Woods circus, his road buddies and the birds in the trees would have known far more about the golfer than his wife did, and how this must have made her feel duped by her husband’s double life.
No matter how financially privileged her life, having two babies in quick succession with a husband who was often away must have been isolating. When Nordegren speaks of her hair falling out from stress, one can also imagine her tearing it out.
Perhaps in an attempt to dispel the gold-digger myth, she has said that she turned down Woods’s requests for a date five times before finally relenting in 2001. In 2004 their $2 million wedding took place by the 19th hole of the Sandy Lane resort, in Barbados, in front of 150 guests, including Oprah Winfrey, Michael Jordan and Bill Gates – more impressive than your average Swedish royal wedding.
Six years later she was seeing herself parodied on the US comedy show Saturday Night Live and the adult cartoon South Park. Their satirical versions of the Thanksgiving crash outside the family home in Orlando, when Nordegren smashed a car window with a golf club – helping to bring the couple’s private problems into the open – were “pretty hysterical” and “totally untrue”, she said.
Commentators drew a mythical scenario of domestic violence in which the man was the victim of an enraged betrayed wife who chased him with a club, provoking him to escape in a car and crash into a fire hydrant and a tree at the bottom of the driveway. This week Nordegren insisted she did not attack Woods or cause him to drive into the tree. “There was never any violence inside or outside our home. The speculation that I would have used a golf club to hit him is just truly ridiculous.”
She says that it was, in fact, some time after Woods crashed the car that she became worried, went to look for him and found him trapped in the locked car. “To think anything else is absolutely wrong.” She and Woods will share custody of their children – a challenge in even the most amicable post-divorce relationships. Nordegren says she is determined to show her children that it is better to be “alone and happy” than “being in a relationship where there is no trust”.
You could say that, at the age of 30, Nordegren has had quite an education in life, if not academics. She is looking for “healing” – not just for herself, but also for her children. She says she feels stronger than she ever has and knows she will have to come to “forgiveness and acceptance” eventually if she is to be happy – “I know I will get there,” she says – although one can’t help thinking of the Swedish blogger’s implication that the beautiful Swede’s €100 million fortune, not to mention her celebrity, may make it more difficult for her to create a new life with a man in it.
Living in a fishbowl and being pursued by the media will be a high price to pay for financial independence.
CV Elin Nordegren
Who is she? Thirty-year-old single mother and psychology student.
Why is she in the news? Divorced Tiger Woods on Monday with a settlement reported at $100 million.
Most likely to say “The speculation that I would have used a golf club to hit him is just truly ridiculous.”
Least likely to say “I’m looking forward to an afternoon of golf.”

Serdang MP apologises to Selangor ruler, dismayed over surau issue

August 28, 2010
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 — Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching today apologised to the Selangor ruler over her surau visit in her constituency this week and expressed dismay that it has been turned into a controversy by Umno and its newspaper Utusan Malaysia.
The Malay daily yesterday published a front-page picture of the first-term MP addressing those who were praying at the Al-Huda Surau in Kajang Sentral, saying she was disrespectful to the religion.
In a statement issued this afternoon, Teo said she will send an explanation and also her apologies to Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah about the issue.
“It is unfortunate that this incident has been played up by Umno and Utusan Malaysia,” she told The Malaysian Insider earlier.
She explained that the Al-Huda Surau committee had applied for allocations for upgrading works to her office recently.
“I agreed and when the cheque was ready I called them to ask how it should be delivered,” said Teo, adding the committee extended an invitation for her to come to the surau in Kajang which she did last Sunday.
She arrived at 9.15pm and waited outside for the congregation to complete their prayers and only after that she was invited in.
“I did asked if it was okay and they assured me that it was,” said Teo.
She initially sat among the women until she was invited to says a few words.
She started by expressing her Ramadan greetings to those gathered before informing them that the state government was also giving out loans for tertiary education.
Teo said the loan was quite new which many were not aware of and she encouraged them to spread the word since October is the closing date for students to apply.
“At no time did I touch on politics and my speech was concluded after a few minutes,” she added.
She was then invited for supper outside the surau before she left the place.
“It was a very simple, low profile visit which lasted about 45 minutes,” said Teo.
She pointed out that Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia had never called her to get her side of the story before publishing the article.
Instead, Teo said the newspaper had relied on a pro-Umno blog which made baseless allegations that she had given money to PAS members during a ceramah at the surau.
She said Utusan Malaysia was acting with ill intent and in bad faith.
“They have their own agenda to demonise the DAP. They are not interested in the truth or finding out the facts,” said Teo.
Following the publication of the article yesterday, the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) announced that they will send a warning letter to Teo.
Mais chairman Datuk Mohamad Adzib Mohd Isa also said they had taken over the management of the surau.
He also reportedly said that the incident had raised the ire of Selangor Ruler, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
Teo has yet to received the warning letter from Mais.

Gmail users place 1M calls in 24 hours | VentureBeat

It looks like Gmail users are already taking advantage of the cheap calling that Google launched yesterday. The company  announced via Twitter that there were 1 million calls placed from Gmail in 24 hours.
The feature is particularly attractive if you’re contacting someone in the US or Canada, because those calls are completely free. Google says it’s subsidizing those calls through its international rates, but those are pretty low too — you can call many countries for just two cents a minute.
The rapid adoption isn’t too surprising, since Google says there are hundreds of millions of Gmail users globally (although the feature is only available to US users for now), and a “significant percentage” of them already take advantage of the service’s video chat capabilities. So if you get a note in Gmail that you can place a free phone call, why wouldn’t you click and try it out? The only hurdle is that you have to install some software before it will work.

Sadly, this feature is only available to US users for now.

PM: No sacking for 'racist' civil servants. We need to educate these kids! ;)

Prime Minister Najib Razak has come out strongly to denounce racism, saying that the federal government should adopt the policy of zero tolerance on the issue, with special focus on those who try to incite racial hatred.
At the Barisan Nasional Youth Lab townhall session in Kuala Lumpur this morning, when taking questions from the floor in a question-and-answer session, Najib attempted to calm emotional waves by urging the public not to be quick about apportioning blame and said, "Sometimes what is interpreted by others may not also be the truth."

Asked if civil servants found to make racist remarks would be sacked, the premier also remained non-committal and said, "We need to have an educational process. It is still quite nascent (for the civil servants). But rest assured, those who make racist remarks, action will be taken."

Oxford Dictionary of English: Enter 'Hikikomori', vuvuzela, 'bromance', 'staycation' and 'frenemy'!

LONDON, Aug. 19 (AP) - (Kyodo)—"Hikikomori," a word that has come into common usage in Japan in recent years to signify the abnormal avoidance of social contact, especially by adolescent males, has found its way into the third edition of the Oxford Dictionary of English published Thursday. The word is one of more than 2,000 new entries in the dictionary, whose first edition was published in 1998, according to Oxford University Press, the dictionary's publisher.
The vuvuzela, the plastic horn used to cheer teams during the soccer World Cup in South Africa earlier this year, also won an entry in the latest edition.
Other new entries include "bromance," a close but non-sexual relationship between two or more men, and "staycation," a holiday or holidays spent in one's home country without going abroad.
The British publisher also added "frenemy" -- a combination of friend and enemy which refers to a friend or partner who is simultaneously a potential enemy or rival.
The second edition of the dictionary added such Japanese words as "otaku," meaning fanboy or geekhead, and "karoshi" for death from overwork.

You are dead wrong, Chua. A vote for PAS is a vote for religious tolerance!

KUALA LUMPUR: It is wrong for the rakyat to assume that they can give the Opposition “a try” in the next general election because PAS will not give up on its Islamic agenda, said MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.
(Source: The Star Online)

Remember, Chua. Where in Malaysia can one find the biggest Buddha? Is it not in Kelantan, a state governed by PAS? Remember the 'Allah' issue? Nik Aziz said, 'Non-Muslims can use 'Allah'? Dare MCA to say the same?

Remember the issue used in the Sibu by-election - Kampua Mee will not taste the same if one changes its recipe: Vote for BN to retain its orginal flavour? Ask yourself, Dr Chua. What has MCA done to ensure that non-halal PORK is available for CHINESE consumption in public food courts in hypermarkets and shopping malls that have patrons from all walks of life?

What a coincidence! DPP vs Pornthip video: Delay due to technical glitch?

The Attorney-General's Chambers has finally uploaded the video recording of the Aug 18 session of the inquest proceedings to determine DAP political aide Teoh Beng Hock's cause of death.

The uploading of the video clip comes just a day after Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng made a commotion over the missing clip and accused the AG's Chambers of lacking transparency. Lim, commenting on the speedy remedial action by the AG's Chambers, said that he hoped such delays do not recur in the future as it would affect the integrity of the authorities.

Contacted later, Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail explained that his department had faced technical difficulties in uploading the video and that the Shah Alam courts had handed his department a corrupted copy of the video tape and a fresh copy was obtained today.

Corrupted copy?? HAHA! What a coincidence! Must have been the baffling questions posed by Abdul Razak Musa! I wonder when Abdul Razak will jump off the building!

Ali Rustam, who except God, can stop you from praying for Lim Guan Eng?!

August 25, 2010
AYER KEROH, Aug 25 – Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam accused his Penang counterpart of fanning “communal” politics and challenged Lim Guan Eng to state if he planned to become a Muslim, referring to the continued khatib controversy in the island state.
“I want to ask Lim Guan Eng, (do you) want to embrace Islam? Lim Guan Eng, do you agree with the Penang mosque praying for you to enter Islam?”asked Mohd Ali.
“If yes, I will also pray for you,” he told reporters here, straight-faced.
The Umno vice-president asserted that the DAP secretary-general is responsible for staining the relationship among Malaysia’s diverse ethnic groups in heavy racial overtones.
Mohd Ali charged the dominantly Chinese opposition party of trying to drive a wedge between the ruling Barisan Nasional’s (BN) component parties and drawing voters to its side ahead of the next general elections.
“When Gan Boon Leong wore a songkok, they said it was Umno bullying the MCA. Now, MCA is afraid to wear it [because] they are afraid of losing the Chinese vote,” he observed.
“This is the communal politics practised by the DAP,” he added.
Yesterday, the Penang khatib, or sermon reader who caused a stir by reciting the “doa” (prayer) for Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng instead of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong during Friday sermons recently, explained he was only praying for the well-being of all leaders.
Zakaria Ahmad said his action was not wrong in Islam, but admitted his timing and sense of appropriateness could have been better.
“God willing, after this, I will say such a ‘doa’ at other occasions and places which are more suitable,” national news agency Bernama reported Zakaria telling reporters after a meeting with the Penang Islamic Religious Council (MAIPP) in George Town.
MAIPP president Elias Zakaria said the committee was satisfied with Zakaria’s explanation, and the outcome of the deliberation would be tabled at a MAIPP meeting for further action.
Elias added that no action would be taken against Zakaria, for now because the latter promised not to repeat the act.

Ali Rustam, I also want to ask you, assuming that Lim Guan Eng is a good guy:
1. Can Ali pray for Lim, according to Islam?
2. If the answer is 'No', then I have no further questions. If 'Yes', let's move to question No.3
3. If Lim does not want to embrace Islam, will Ali pray for Lim to want to embrace Islam? Islam is a good religion. ;)
4. If Lim does not agree with Ali to pray for him to enter Islam, will Ali still pray for him - perhaps not for Lim to enter Islam but at least, pray for Lim's well-being?

Malaysia's 37th Ranking Now But What Will Happen In Another 47 years??

August 25, 2010 13:14 PM
BACHOK, Aug 25 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's 37th ranking on "The World's Best Countries" list by Newsweek magazine has proven the opposition wrong.

Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Dr Awang Adek Hussin said opposition allegations that the Barisan Nasional (BN) government was corrupt and bankrupt were unfounded.

"They should be thankful to the government and not make such baseless allegations," he told reporters after breaking fast with Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) staff in Tangok Wednesday night.

Malaysia was ranked 37th for top globe nations by economy, politics, education, health and quality of life.

Newsweek placed Malaysia above Indonesia, Thailand, China, Philippines, India and Vietnam.

The magazine also ranked Malaysia 8th best in the world in education among developing countries.

Awang urged the opposition to stop spreading lies to make the people hate the government like Felda was bankrupt, cruel and neglected the poor Malays.

Reform undertaken by the government had proved fruitful as many children of farmers and fishermen had attained higher education and better quality of life.

"I am the son of a fisherman while International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed is the son of a tobacco grower. This can't be found in other countries where success is only for aristocrats."

Awang said initiatives like the New Economic Model NEM), Economic Transformation Plan and the Tenth Malaysia Plan (10MP) would strengthen government policies.

-- BERNAMA
The leaders of Umno-led BN government have not learnt their lessons and are still saying that we should be thankful to the government.
The people are the ones who vote for and empowers the government. Sadly, for at least 50 years, the people has voted for BN who in return, has abused the power vested in her.

Look at 45-year-old Singapore, now a developed nation, is so much more advanced than us and ranked 20th in the "The World's Best Countries" list. The advancement of Singapore is the result of good governance!

This is the description of Singapore in the 'Best Economic Dynamism' category:
Don't be fooled by Singapore's tiny size. Its population is little more than half that of New York City, but it still enjoys a high GDP per capita and has one of the recession's fastest-rebounding economies. The bite-size island's flourishing economy—thanks in part to low levels of regulation and low taxes—is even prompting the government to recruit foreign talent. With its open economy, low levels of corruption, and high government and business efficiency, Singapore no doubt deserves the title of the most economically dynamic country.

Key figures in Lingam-tape saga receive threats: VK Lingam's death targets?

Three key figures linked to the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Lingam-tape incident today claim that they were recently threatened.
GN jayanthi and Loh Gwo Burne press conferenceThey were lawyer VK Lingam's former secretary GN Jayanthi (left), Lingam's younger brother V Thirunama Karasu and Kelana Jaya MP Loh Gwo Burne's.

Jayanthi claims that she had received several threatening text messages and is worried for her safety.

During a press conference at Loh's office today, Jayanthi revealed that she had received seven such text messages on her phone which used lewd language with one message that read "You stupid. Fat as pig" while another "You are doomed for life".

According to the police report lodged on July 8, the message originated from a phone that had a United Kingdom prefix and she claims that to date, there has been no word from the police.

Jayanthi said that following The death of Lingam's brother V Rajendran after a brawl on Aug 7 and Lingam's driver D Ramachandran as a result of a car accident in May, she is worried that she may be "the next victim" and added that she might seek protection from the police.

According to Loh, Lingam's younger brother V Thirunama Karasu has also received threats and is now in hiding. Loh also claims that he had received threats in May and his office had been broken into three times this year alone and does not discount the possibility that all this was linked to the Lingam tape.

"There are too many coincidences. I don't rule out the possibilities, but I don't want to point fingers. Maybe it is political harassment. I am not sure," he said, adding that after two "unnatural" deaths, he said that he along with Jayanthi and Thirunama were both possible targets.

Unlike a civilian, Loh said that as an MP, he could not go into hiding and urged the police to take action.

1Malaysia elegantly silent on recent 'racist' incidents: PM fights lone battle!

Khairy: Don’t let Najib fight lone battle

Compiled by Ann Tan

SIN Chew Daily reported Barisan Nasional Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin as saying that the people should support Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and not let the Prime Minister fight a lone battle.
“The Government under the leadership of Najib is changing. Those who work with the Prime Minister should reform and not be afraid to change,” he said in an interview.
He said Barisan Youth fully supported the 1Malaysia concept.
“MCA Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong can comment on issues affecting the Chinese community and I can give my views on problems faced by the Malays,” he said.
“Sometimes, I can ask Dr Wee to speak for the Malays and I can speak for the Chinese because we represent all the communities.”
Khairy said the Barisan would be in big trouble if they failed to convince the young people, as there were about three million new voters in the next general election.
“In general, young people think that the Barisan is sticking to the old ways, refusing to change and it is not open. What the younger generation wants is a new political culture,” he said.
Khairy said 62% of the youths had yet to decide whether to support Barisan or Pakatan Rakyat in the next election.

Black Ops in 'name-in-sermon' game? O why PM is personally interested?!

COMMENT Can one be blamed if one feels nervous on hearing that Penang police have formed a special team to investigate the alleged substitution of Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's name in place of the Yang Di Pertuan Agong's at Friday sermons at some mosques in Penang?

This reminds me of the National Mosque issue of 1999. Umno whacked the opposition for allowing Tian Chua, Gobalakrishnan and other ‘unclean’ non-Muslims to enter the National Mosque. But it is okay for Japanese, Taiwanese and ‘Mat Salleh’ non-Muslim tourists to enter the mosque because they are foreign tourists and not opposition supporters.

Quote of The Year

"You have to understand. I work for the rights of the dead, not the Selangor government. My objective is to help the dead," -- Thai forensic expert Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand
Dr Pornthip, the director of the Central Institute of Forensic Science in the Ministry of Justice in Bangkok, said this on Wednesday 18 August 2010 during the inquest into the mysterious death of political aide Teoh Beng Hock, in an elegant curt reply when lawyers for the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency (MACC) tried to discredit her in court, suggesting that her testimony was biased because she was hired by the Selangor state government to examine Beng Hock’s corpse.

Who is Dr Porn Chua, a non-Muslim, to chastise DJ Jamaluddin, a Muslim?

August 20, 2010
Dr Chua said the MCA has never interfered in the operations of The Star Publications. — file pic
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 — Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek today played the religion card to hit back at deejay Jamaluddin Ibrahim for claiming they had met many times before, and issued a biting reminder that this was the holy month of Ramadan.
In denying that the party was to blame for axing Jamaluddin yesterday, the MCA president claimed he had only met with the 98.8 FM radio deejay once on May 3 this year, and even then, it had been at Jamaluddin’s request.
“Such meetings with journalists, whether print or electronic, is part of my duty as the party president. It is not true that I have met him five times as he has claimed,” he said in a statement today.
Dr Chua chastised Jamaluddin for making such “misleading” allegations and reminded the Mandarin-speaking deejay of his Muslim responsibilities.
“Jamaluddin, as a Muslim, should be more responsible and not make misleading and wrongful statements, particularly in this holy month of Ramadan,” he said.
Dr Chua also sought to absolve the party of any involvement in Jamaluddin’s removal from the popular station.
“The MCA has never interfered in the operations of The Star Publications (M) Bhd and its subsidiary, Star Rfm Sdn Bhd which owns the 988 Mandarin radio station.
“The party is fully aware of the status of The Star Publications Bhd as a public listed company and its responsibilities to the shareholders.
“I also believe that the media group should not be used or abused for any individual agenda,” he said.
Dr Chua stressed that as the MCA was not responsible for the decision to remove Jamaluddin, it would not intervene in the case.
“The matter will be fully handled by the management (of the station),” he said.
Jamaluddin, who is the host for the station’s “Hello Malaysia” programme, was told to leave recently for allegedly offending the authorities with racially sensitive remarks.
He was axed following a letter from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to the station on Wednesday, which informed him that the programme was suspected of being a threat to national security and compromising race relations.
Following his removal, Jamaluddin’s colleagues in the station caused a bigger stir yesterday when they wept openly on-air while discussing the issue.
They also turned the programme into a tribute to the popular host, the son of Malaysian freedom fighters the late Shamsiah Fakeh and Ibrahim Mohammed who both lived in exile in China due to their involvement in the Communist Party of Malaya.
Since then, the breakfast programme’s remaining three deejays have also been removed, while its chief executive officer Wong Lai Ngo and senior programme manager Tan Chia Yong were suspended.
It is believed that Jamaluddin’s suspension had stemmed from the invitation of popular columnist Oyoung Wen Feng during last Friday’s programme to speak on issues pertaining to racial discrimination.
It has also been speculated that the MCA was the silent hand behind Jamaluddin’s removal as the deejay was known to be supportive of Dr Chua’s predecessor, Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat.
Ong was recently forced to relinquish his post as MCA president when he lost his bid to retain the seat during the party’s elections in March this year.
It is believed that Jamaluddin has frequently voiced his views during discussions on air and was often in favour of Ong’s leadership.
In a press conference today, Star Rfm chairman Linda Ngiam said that the removal of Jamaluddin and the others were not due to political pressures from the MCA.
She said that the programme would continue without discussions and call-ins from listeners, and would be led by different deejays.
Ngiam said that the MCMC, in its letter, had advised the station to air content that was not too controversial.
She, however, said that it was yet to be determined how the station’s programme had breached MCMC’s guidelines.

Chua once slammed others for their 'holier-than-thou' attitude when they condemned him over his 'sex-capade'. Now, he's showing his 'holier-than-thou' attitude by slamming DJ Jamaluddin. Come on Chua,  don't try to show you are a hero for the Chinese community. Shame on you, 'Cina Pek' Chua!

Carrefour Subang Parade: Chinese Food tak laku

I blogged about it before - halal Chinese Food but no pork served. What's the point? Chinese loves to eat pork. Even at the time of writing (half an hour before buka puasa), there's no customer here while the stalls next door, Mamak Corner and Thai Food are having brisk business.

Asri sees no wrong in praying for leaders’ well-being: What's wrong with Umno?

August 22, 2010

Asri wants all sides to stop politicising the issue. - Picture by Choo Choy May
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 22 — Popular Muslim preacher Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin has urged Pakatan Rakyat (PR) and Barisan Nasional (BN) to stop politicising the Penang sermon issue, saying it was acceptable to pray for the well-being of leaders.
Stressing that he was unsure if Umno’s allegations were true, the Penang-born Mohd Asri said that praying for Lim Guan Eng’s well-being in his capacity as Chief Minister was a minor issue.
“Don’t politicise this issue. I told Pakatan and also BN not to politicise it,” he said, adding that political parties need to work for the country and not always limit themselves to a partisan view.
“I am not siding with anyone... There are a lot of important things to be done for the people of this country... This issue is not really that important,” the former Perlis mufti said after returning from Mecca on Friday.
Penang Umno chief Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi claimed on Thursday
that several mosques in the state had replaced the King’s name with Lim’s in their sermons.
PR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim hit back by claiming the allegations were a desperate attempt by BN to remain relevant, pointing out that he had personally read the text of the sermon.
When contacted yesterday, Mohd Asri explained to The Malaysian Insider that prayers fell into four categories. The first two involved praying that a leader receives guidance, and for a leader to be fair and sympathetic to the people.
“These prayers can be read whether or not the leader is Muslim or not,” he said.
He said the other two prayers involved wishing for the well-being of a leader even if he were unfair and outright praising of his leadership.
“These two cannot be done,” he said.
Mohd Asri also questioned why the prayer issue was being made a big deal of now despite the fact that there were political parties that prayed for a non-Muslim candidate’s election victory before.
He said if a prayer for victory could be read for a non-Muslim candidate, then a prayer for the well-being and guidance of a non-Muslim leader should be similarly permitted.
“There are prayers that can be done and prayers that cannot... Prayers for the sake of good, we can do,” he said.
He also advised that the sermon issue be solved fairly and factually from a religious point-of-view and not through emotional political platforms.
When asked about the alleged use of the chief minister’s name to replace that of the King, Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin, Mohd Asri said he was not aware of the claim having just arrived back in Malaysia.
Penang Umno deputy chief Datuk Zainal Abidin Osman told The Malaysian Insider yesterday that those delivering the sermons should get approval from the Penang Islamic Affairs Council even they were guest prayer leaders.
He said this in response to an Utusan Malaysia report the day before which quoted the Masjid Jamek Padang Menora imam Ibrahim Ishak as admitting that a guest prayer leader had mentioned the chief minister’s name when reading the Friday sermon recently.
Zainal Abidin said the spate of incidents showed that guest prayer leaders must get permission from the state’s Islamic Affairs Council before being allowed to work.
The police have so far received three reports over the Friday sermon issue involving some mosques in Penang. Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussein said police were now investigating the allegation contained in the reports.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak yesterday ordered a full investigation into the matter by the police and the Penang Islamic Religious Council.

Chinese commu-nity or CRONY-nity benefitted from BN policies, Mr. Chen?

The success achieved by the Chinese community in various fields can be attributed, in many ways, to the policies of BN, former senate president Michael Chen said.
mca snoop squad hearing 140508 michael chen

Mr. Chen told Bernama, "I think, since Independence in 1957, the Malaysian Chinese are happy about the economy and I think they have contributed their fair share for the development of Malaysia. The loyalty of the Chinese to this country has been proven and of course the BN government has created stability and implemented policies which enabled them to make a good living."

According to Mr. Chen, the government also provided various assistance which benefited the community including in terms of aid to Chinese schools, scholarships to Chinese students, religious freedom and fair distribution of economic wealth.

You think the Malaysian Chinese are happy about the economy and loyal to the country? Why do you think many Malaysian Chinese have migrated? Even your own party member, Ng Yen Yen had an Australian PR before. Why do you only think about Malaysian Chinese? How about Malaysian non-Chinese like the Malays, Indians and other Malaysians who are categorized as 'dan lain-lain'? Are they happy? Ok lah, since your so bloody Chinese, let's talk about the scholarships to Chinese students. Sincerely ask yourself, 'What has MCA done to ensure all deserving Chinese students get a scholarship from the government based on meritocracy?

The First Sign: Jesus Turns Water Into Wine (John 2:1-11)

1 On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2 Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. 3 And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.”
4 Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.”
5 His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.
6 Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece. 7 Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it. 9 When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom. 10 And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!”
11 This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.
