Raja Rezza Shah & Rosmah: The Kapp fashion duo

Islamic Fashion Festival chairperson Raja Rezza Shah, who was in the entourage of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's wife Rosmah Mansor when she visited an Australian designer boutique, says she "made no sizeable purchase".

NONEResponding to Malaysiakini, Raja Rezza (left) said the 61 pieces purchased at the Carl Kapp Shop in Paddington in Sydney, Australia, recently were actually "stock" for his shop in London and when asked if these items included Rosmah's purchases, he answered in the affirmative.

He said these were stock for his shop in London, which would be a platform for designers of different religions and races from around the world but he did not reveal how many pieces Rosmah has bought.

Raja Rezza, who is currently abroad to promote the Islamic Fashion Festival, also said that he was upset that such "positive activity has been negatively manipulated".

Salleh NFCorp desak Shamsubahrin 'rasuah' polis?!

UPDATED @ 07:07:22 PM 30-01-2012
January 30, 2012
PETALING JAYA, Jan 30 — PKR claimed today that a National Feedlot Corporation (NFCorp) official had asked Datuk Shamsubahrin Ismail to bribe police in an attempt to close investigations into allegations of abuse of public funds.

Party vice-president N. Surendran, who said he is now Shamsubahrin’s lawyer, distributed a police report made by his client on January 27 to reporters which states that he was “made a scapegoat in the NFC scandal.”
Shamsubahrin (picture) said in the report that he received “calls and SMSes pressuring me to bribe police to close the NFC case.”

“I have proof in the form of an SMS. I was not willing to do so although I was pressured repeatedly. I only replied saying I would try to sort out the matter,” the report said.

Shamsubahrin accused the NFCorp official of “cheating me by appointing me as Corporate Advisor and Consultant” in November 2011 which he said was a false appointment.

PKR had disclosed an email earlier this month detailing how NFCorp’s lawyer allegedly told a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission advisory board member that an official in the company had been tricked into paying money to a “conman” to influence a police probe into the project.

According to the email, the lawyer told the advisory board member how the NFC official had been tricked into paying money to a “conman” — understood to be Shamsubahrin — to allegedly influence ongoing investigations by the police.

Tan Sri Megat Najmuddin Megat Khas confirmed to The Malaysian Insider that he authored the email which PKR has presented as proof that a top NFC official had allegedly tried to bribe the police.

Shamsubahrin was recently charged with cheating NFCorp chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Salleh Ismail of RM1.76 million in fraudulent consultancy fees.

The businessman, who Surendran said is still under remand in Sungai Buloh “because he fears for his safety”, was charged last week with two further counts of cheating.

In the police report, the 45-year-old said that these “charges and investigations against me are baseless.”
Mohamed Salleh had earlier said Shamsubahrin was neither a relative nor has he ever been an NFC employee.

NFCorp’s assets were frozen after investigations were launched by police and the MACC following a series of exposes by PKR against the company owned by senior minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil’s family.

The opposition party has accused NFCorp of spending at least RM27 million in public funds on land, property and expenses unrelated to cattle farming.

Shahrizat returns to ministerial duties on February 6 after taking three weeks’ leave to allow the authorities to complete their probes.

Perak Grab: Real meaning of ABU. Sultan = Umno!

Look at Perak. Granted it was because the Pakatan Rakyat state assemblypersons changed sides that the state fell back to Barisan Nasional. But that alone was not enough. If was because the state secretary was Umno (hence he locked up Nizar Jamaluddin’s office and called in the police) and the Sultan was Umno (hence he swore in the new government even if the constitution may not have allowed that) and so on. It was an entire machinery of Umno that included the police, state civil service, palace, judiciary, SPR, etc., that allowed Perak to fall.

Utusan media paling rasis! DAP parti paling rasis! ;)

January 29, 2012

Excerpt:
The editorial went on to accuse Lim of pushing for “only the rights of the Chinese” and not for other races, and also took pot shots at the opposition party’s latest attempt to recruit more Malay members.

The same goes for Umno, MCA and MIC that are pushing for “only the rights of the Malay, Chinese and Indian” respectively, making them the most unholy-and-racist alliance.

Groupon SnoWalk@i-City: Our first time experience

My family bought our first Groupon:
The deal that we bought:

I must say Groupon Customer Support is quite prompt in responding to customer queries via support@groupon.my.

I emailed an enquiry on Fri, Dec 30, 2011 at 2:27 PM. Immediately, there was an email auto-responser from Groupon with the subject 'We got your request, and will be in touch very soon! (ticket #9xxxx)'. The official reply to my email enquiry only came at at 11:04 PM on the same day.

Not bad.

After our visit to i-City, I emailed again on Mon, Jan 9, 2012 at 12:38 AM, requesting for explainations with regards to my experience using Groupon @ i-City.

Here's the content of the email:

Hi,

My wife and kid just finished our Snowalk and 1 outdoor ride.

Would like to have answers to the following questions:
1. We redeemed our Groupon for 1 ticket for the 2-tier ride and another 3 tickets for outdoor rides. When we went to the ticket counter at ferris wheel, we were told that each of the 3 tickets were for one person each - hence we could use it for myself, my wife and kid. Is it supposed to be that way? (We didn't use the 2-tier ride ticket)

2. If let's say just my wife and I, by right, with the 1 ticket for the 2-tier ride and another 3 tickets for outdoor rides, then both of us could go on all the 4 rides - is that correct?

I hope you can clarify.

Thanks.

A week went by. No response from Groupon. I emailed again on Tue, Jan 17, 2012 at 10:23 AM with the following content:

Hi Support,

Do you have a policy not to entertain questions from customers after the deal is done?

At least, have the courtesy to reply my email. I just want answers to my questions.

Regards,
Joshua

Fifteen minutes later, I got this email from Groupon:
Slim, Jan-17 10:38 am (MYT):
Hi Joshua,
My colleague Athiesh did reply your request #9xxxx It may have gone to your Spam/Junk folder.
As for your question.
If you and your wife went as a couple then yes you would have been able to redeem the coupon to ride all 4 rides.
Please let me know if I can be of any more assistance.
Regards,
Slim
My reply to Slim on  Tue, Jan 17, 2012 at 10:53 AM:
Slim,

Thanks for your reply.

Just checked my Spam/Junk, no email from your colleague Athiesh.

I think Groupon should've communicated clearly to the i-City people especially those manning the ticket counters. This man at the ferris wheel ticket counter in particular, misunderstood the groupon promo. He told me 1 coupon per person. So, I gave him the three coupons - one each for my son, my wife and I.

Well, it was a good thing that we only wanted to ride the ferris wheel for if we wanted to ride all the 4 rides, I think we wouldn't be able to do so after the ferris wheel ride.

The last email reply from Slim of Groupon:
Slim, Jan-17 01:30 pm (MYT):Hi Joshua,
We usually deal with the manager or head of operations after the deal has launched.
We will notify him on your encounter and let him know.
Thank you for your feedback.
And continue enjoying your Groupons!
Also in the future please do not hesitate to contact us for anything! :)
Regards,
Slim

MACC officers arrive at NFCorp’s office in Kuala Lumpur, December 23, 2011. — File pic
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 27 — The National Feedlot Corporation (NFCorp) rubbished today claims it misappropriated public funds, stating that its RM250 million government loan must be repaid else “we will be declared bankrupt or locked up in jail”.

Executive director Wan Shahinur Izmir Salleh said at a briefing organised by a group calling themselves the Coalition of Malaysian NGOs that “stories saying we are getting free money are unreasonable.”

“RM250 million is a big amount. If we play around without direction, my children’s future will be destroyed. For centuries, we will be saddled with debt,” he said, looking uncomfortable in front of attendees and reporters who had waited for two hours for him to arrive.

“The loan agreement has been signed. If we don’t pay back, we will be declared bankrupt or locked up in jail. We will pay every sen plus interest. The question of misappropriation does not arise,” Izmir, who is Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil’s son, said.

After speaking for just 20 minutes, Izmir refused to field questions from reporters.

“I am sorry I cannot address the media today. I only came to explain matters to the NGOs,” he said before leaving in his SUV.

NFCorp, which is owned by Shahrizat’s family, had its assets frozen recently to facilitate investigations by police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) into allegations of breach of trust in the national cattle farming project.

This came after a series of exposés by PKR, which claimed at least RM27 million was used for land, property and expenses unrelated to cattle farming by Wanita Umno chief Shahrizat and her family.

The women, family and community development minister has since sued PKR’s strategic director Rafizi Ramli and Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin over the claims.

Earlier today, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin also rejected calls from the opposition for a royal commission of inquiry into the scandal by saying the police and MACC were capable of handling the matter.

The RM250 million federally-funded cattle-farming project was first coined a “mess” in an article in a local daily after it made it into the pages of the A-G’s 2010 Report.

The term was later repeatedly reused by various media organisations to describe the NFC after PKR launched a series of exposés to show the project’s funds were being abused.

NFCorp, which was awarded the project in 2006, had thanked Auditor-General Tan Sri Ambrin Buang yesterday for clarifying that he had not called the company a “mess” in his 2010 report, saying the explanation would help strengthen public perception of its operations.
The company said the Auditor-General’s statement on Friday would help put to rest months of “tireless bashing from hardline critics” against NFCorp, which operates the scandal-ridden National Feedlot Centre (NFC) project.

Rosmah-Kapp: Spicy laksa for new Malaysian frens

Hornery mocks Kapp: PM's wife wasn't buying T-shirts

The Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) columnist Andrew Hornery stood by his report that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's wife Rosmah Mansor spent lavishly on designer Carl Kapp's clothing during a private holiday in the city.

Yesterday, through his Twitter account, Hornery (below) said, "Kapp said she ordered 61 garments. Said it was a "massive" order. His stuff is expensive. She wasn't buying T-shirts...

Having courted plenty of notoriety for his reports on Rosmah's 'lavish' spending on designer wear, the prominent lifestyle columnist also tweeted, I won't be holidaying in Malaysia anytime soon. I've been hung, drawn and quartered in print there. Shoot the messenger when the truth hurts?"

NONEIn replying to other users, Hornery maintained that his source is "rock solid" and insisted that Rosmah's purchases amounted to a considerable sum while promising a very spicy laksa for lunch in`honour of tomorrow's column that will serve as a tribute to his new friends in Malaysia!

Ooo...I can't wait for this juicy-and-very-spicy laksa!

Kapp verified Frockwriter's post on Rosmah's visit! ;)

Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) columnist Andrew Hornery has claimed that it was top notch designer Carl Kapp’s publicist who had pitched details of Rosmah Mansor’s alleged A$100,000 (RM325,000) shopping spree during her holiday in the Australian city.

NONEHornery (right) vouched for the contents of the gossip column published on Saturday, saying that he had verified the details with Kapp after the fashion blog Frockwriter reported on the visit of premier Najib Abdul Razak and wife Rosmah to the Kapp boutique apparently after the premier's wife saw Kapp's collection at a department store.
In responding to Rosmah’s accusation that his claims were “wildly exaggerated and not true”, Hornery told Malaysiakini in an email interview, “(Kapp’s) quotes are direct quotes, he is on the record.”
Hornery said that, even before the blog ran the story, Kapp’s publicist  had been calling fashion journalists and pitching the story to them days before the SMH went to town with the report though most declined, but Frockwriter did the story and Hornery was very aware of the significant news value, hence, the reason why he made contact with Kapp, sent a photographer to capture his image and published the story in the mainstream media.

carl kapp sydney designerHe related that Kapp (left) verified contents of the blog and followed up with specifics of Najib’s and Rosmah’s visit and said, “He (Kapp) was as candid as he could be.”

Frockwriter, run by fashion journalist Patty Huntington, was the first to reveal Rosmah’s visit to the boutique.

Auditor-General kowtow to Perkasa, says no mess!

NFCorp boss says Auditor-General mixed up entities in audit

January 23, 2012
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 23 — National Feedlot Corporation (NFCorp) is not the entity criticised in the Auditor-General’s Report for being a mess, its chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Salleh Ismail said today.

He said the audit had confused NFCorp, a private entity, with the National Feedlot Centre (NFC), which is owned by the Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Ministry.

File photo of the National Feedlot Centre in Gemas.

“There was crisscross between the two. NFC is a government company and NFCorp is a company that belongs to us...,” he told The Malaysian Insider via telephone from Mecca. “It was unfortunate for our company, for us and for my wife because the Auditor-General writes about government departments, never about companies.”

When asked why he had not clarified this earlier, Salleh explained that he had only realised the mix-up when investigations began on the centre and the company.

He said it was unfair for the media to demonise NFCorp and his wife, federal minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil, who has been dragged into the controversy.

“We are trying our best to do socio-economic development like what the government does and [it was] definitely not fair to attack my wife because my wife had really nothing to do with the project,” he said.

Yesterday, Perkasa chief Datuk Ibrahim Ali urged the Auditor-General to clarify that NFCorp was not in a mess, following a meeting with Salleh.

During the meeting, which was also attended by 11 other non-government organisations (NGOs), Salleh said the Auditor-General’s Department had already agreed in private that the company’s affairs were in order.

Ibrahim said yesterday that the department may have made small mistakes when preparing the national audit report as not all staff there were trained equally well.

“When they did the report, there are [some] that were accurate and some not so accurate because of weaknesses of the officers,” he said.

Ibrahim, however, stressed that he was not siding with anyone and that he would leave it to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and police to carry out a proper investigation into NFCorp’s finances.

The publicly-funded company hit the headlines following last year’s Auditor-General’s Report, and has continued to hog the limelight after it was linked to Shahrizat’s family.

PKR has since made several revelations relating to the scandal, including NFCorp’s purchase of two luxury condominium units in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, and the alleged use of project funds to pay for Shahrizat and her family’s personal expenses.

The opposition party has also alleged that Shahrizat’s family used nearly RM600,000 from NFCorp’s funds to settle their credit card bills in 2009.

But the management of NFCorp has maintained that the credit card expenses were solely for business purposes.

It has also denied allegations that funds from the RM250 million government loan were channelled into its accounts before the loan agreement was signed.

Shahrizat applied for three weeks’ leave from her duties two weeks ago after new allegations of bribery surfaced.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced last week that the government would appoint an auditor to scrutinise NFCorp’s books in light of PKR’s accusations.

Kolumnis Andrew Hornery: Rosmah memang boros!

Kolumnis pertahan dakwaan Rosmah belanja RM325,000
Kolumnis Sydney Morning Herald Andrew Hornery mempertahankan dakwaannya bahawa isteri perdana menteri Rosmah Mansor membelanjakan lebih RM300,000 semasa lawatannya ke Australia.

"FLOM (wanita pertama Malaysia) dakwa saya membesar-besarkan secara liar lawatan sambil membeli-belahnya di Sydney?

"Saya tetap pertahankan setiap kata-kata saya.

Umno thugs distrupted before ABU ceramah began!

Someone shared a link on my wall today:

A ceramah organised by Anything But Umno (ABU) was cancelled at the last minute due to a disturbance from a "rowdy" group.

NONESuara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram) executive director E Nalini (right), said, "The ceramah was disrupted by several youths sporting T-shirts with BN and Umno logos when the ceramah was to start about 9pm last night. As we were driving to the hall, there were about six or seven men beating up a boy with sticks."

Nalini's story was confirmed by ABU coordinator Haris Ibrahim, who added that one young man was taken to the hospital.

"Another group of some 20 people were causing a ruckus opposite the hall, waving rods and riding motorcycles who told them that the area was an "Umno stronghold," Nalini told Malaysiakini.

Rosmah tempah koleksi fesyen Carl Kapp RM325K

Malaysiakini:

Private Sydney @ The Sydney Morning Herald:

Rosmah, first lady of shopping, di Sydney, Darling Hotel

The big spending habits of another member of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s family caught the attention of the Australian media again today - this time in Sydney.

In the 'Private Sydney' section of the Australian daily Sydney Morning Herald, columnist Andrew Horney called Rosmah the “first lady of shopping”, allegedly for spending A$100,000 (RM325,000) at a Sydney boutique and quoting Sydney designer Carl Kapp, the columnist reported that Kapp’s “biggest customer” had spent the astounding amount during a “private holiday” there “a little more than a fortnight ago”

Headlined ‘Super Kerr Now a Model Citizen’, the column also reported that:
1. Rosmah had requested “valet parking for her limo” and was flying Kapp out to Malaysia for fittings of the clothes she ordered.
2. Rosmah and Najib had during the holiday stayed at the A$20,000 (RM65,100) a night penthouse (right) at the newly-minted five-star Darling Hotel.

Porn Chua, Chinese owes nothing to BN leadership

Firstly, understand this - BN leaders are supposed to be servants to the people.

MCA is supposed to be the servant to the Chinese but no, MCA is the dog to Umno.

Chinese buy house no discount.
Chinese denied meritocracy in education.
Chinese cannot be chief of armed forces.
Chinese 'cannot' so many things lah.
Don't talk about Chinese lah.
Chinese MCA is selling out the rights of Chinese.
If you can't even fight for justice for the Chinese, you can't fight for Malaysians!

We don't need you and MCA to represent Chinese!

Soi Lek: Chinese owe prosperity to BN leadership?

KPMG more standing than MACC. MACC BN's tool

January 19, 2012
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 19 — Lim Guan Eng said today that public officials should declare their assets but appeared to agree with Umno minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz to exclude family members. However, the Penang Chief Minister stressed that declarations should be verified by independent audit firms instead of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), which he labelled a Barisan Nasional (BN) “tool”.

“The first step is to start with ministers and those who hold positions of public trust, not with family members, because they may have their own sources of income,” Lim (picture) told a press conference today.

He was responding to Nazri’s statement today that ministers and their kin should not be compelled to disclose their assets to the public as it could endanger them.

“I think I can understand where Nazri is coming from. For those who have inherited assets, inherited wealth, or those with family wealth, those who were successful even before politics... that wealth, of course, may be subjected to attention for unhealthy elements.

“But there is a necessity, at least as the first step, to ask all office bearers, those who hold positions of public trust, to declare their assets,” Lim said.

The MACC announced yesterday its proposal that all Cabinet ministers, deputy ministers and their immediate family members sign statutory declarations (SD) to declare their assets with the agency.

But Lim said the MACC could not be trusted, and urged the federal government to follow in the footsteps of Penang by appointing an independent audit firm to oversee the asset declarations.

“I feel the MACC is a tool of the BN. That’s why we (Penang government) never asked the MACC... our assets are verified by KPMG, an international independent audit firm... because I think they have more standing that MACC,” said Lim.

Cabinet ministers are presently required to disclose their assets to the Prime Minister but the information is not made public.

MCA brags: Guan Eng taunts 'winnable' Porn Chua!

January 18, 2012

Lim asked if Dr Chua would be willing to let DAP respond to MCA’s boasts in kind. — File pic
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 18 — DAP’s Lim Guan Eng today demanded his political foe Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek disclose where the latter will contest in the next general election to prove MCA’s “winnability”.
“Will Chua Soi Lek dare to announce which seat he is contesting, then let me go to that constituency and repeat Liow’s remarks that we are confident of defeating Chua then see how Chua will respond?” Lim pressed the MCA president in a statement today.
The DAP secretary-general was retorting Dr Chua’s remarks yesterday defending his MCA deputy president, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai. Liow previously said MCA could win unseat any DAP candidate in Bagan, currently held by Lim.
“I consider myself a winnable candidate everywhere I go,” Dr Chua had declared at his MCA’s annual general assembly on October 2 last year, after being challenged by his party rival and former president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat.
“DAP is not interested in playing the boastful games of MCA, when the only one making political challenges is the MCA and not DAP,” the Bagan incumbent said.
Lim who is also Penang chief minister, accused Dr Chua of public deception when the medical doctor alleged that DAP and its federal opposition partners in the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) bloc had mismanaged the island state’s finances, resulting in budget deficits.
“Penang has no budget deficits but had recorded budget surpluses every year for the four years we are in power, certified by the Auditor-General Report,” Lim said, adding that his administration remains the only state throughout the country that has been praised by world graft watchdog Transparency International for enforcing an open tender system to fight corruption.

Ceylyn Tay, it's not about race but about class, OK!

Gerakan councillor's speech goes viral, gets bashing
It is rare for online videos of BN politicians giving speeches to go viral, but one relatively unknown Gerakan politician has managed to buck this trend.

The video in question is a 20-minute speech in Cantonese at a 1Malaysia event on Jan 7 in Ipoh. The speech was made by Ipoh City Council member Ceylyn Tay who without Wasting any time launched into a tirade against Pakatan Rakyat, arguing that the birth of coalition had led to more racialism resulting in an undesirable "two-race system". Hence, Malaysia should not have a two-party system.

The original YouTube clip, uploaded by user TalkEastTalkWest, was taken down yesterday afternoon after about 16,000 views with an overwhelming majority of 1,237 viewers who voted on the video gave it the ‘thumbs down', compared to 24 who gave it the ‘thumbs up'.

The only 'race' right now is Umno. Other component parties in BN are second class. The rakyat is pariah but NEVER underestimate the UNDERDOGS!

BN guna cash beli undi - Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir

January 17, 2012
I have one friend who hails from Labuan who once told me that he received cash handout each time there was a general election. So, this claim made by this ex-minister is nothing new.

Hopefully, in the next general election, the rakyat especially the Sarawakians and Sabahans, will take the money from BN but give the votes to non-BN!

2012 GDP growth: StanChart 2.7% vs Gov 5% - 6%

StanChart sees 2.7% GDP growth for M'sia in 2012

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 17, 2012): Malaysia's economy is expected to hit a trough this quarter, before growth accelerates as the year progresses, boosted by a pick-up in domestic activity, analysts at Standard Chartered Research said.
They expect the still-robust demand for commodities, led by palm oil, rubber and liquefied natural gas (LNG), to cushion the impact of weaker export numbers from the manufacturing sector.

Standard Chartered predicts the country's gross domestic product (GDP) will expand at a "sub-par" rate of 2.7% in 2012, which is about half the pace of the government's official forecast of between 5% and 6% this year.
The economy grew 4.8% last year.
The government's growth target for 2012 is "too aggressive" given the poor global economic outlook this year, said the bank's Southeast Asia head of research Tai Hui.
"Malaysia, being an open economy, is susceptible to the fallout in the West,'' he said in a briefing yesterday.
Standard Chartered also sees the possibility of a 50-basis point (bps) rate cut by Bank Negara Malaysia in the first half of 2012, starting with a 25bps cut in March. "The focus will be growth over inflation,'' Tai said.
While growth will not collapse like it did in 2008 and 2009, a further deterioration of the European debt mess will prompt central banks across Asia to be more dovish and growth-oriented in the first quarter of 2012.
"Asia has not decoupled from the West, but is better insulated and more diversified,'' the bank's chief economist Gerard Lyons said.
He also sees the trend of inflows from the West into Asia continuing, as global investors continue to seek higher yields outside their home markets.
With the West still deep in crisis, gold is poised to become a winner again this year.
The bank's global head of commodities research Hsi Han Pin said gold price is expected to rebound toward US$2,000 an ounce from its recent pullback to US$1,600.
Hsi also has a relatively benign view on crude palm oil (CPO), which he expects to average RM3,450 a tonne in 2012, up from RM3,216 in 2011.
This is higher than local analysts' prediction of an average RM3,000 a tonne.

Maxis One Club: The day I got my free HTC Desire!

I went to Maxis KLCC. Almost immediately I was served by an agent named Alex who was very helpful.
Frankly, I was quite impressed by the service provided by this agent. Maxis, take note!

Ok, this was the FREE HTC phone. I must admit I was happy (still happy until today) that I didn't have to pay a single sen for this phone. If I wanted the SE Xperia Arc or Samsung Nexus, I only had to pay like RM200 for the former and also for latter (if I remember correctly!). Neverthless. I just didn't have the budget for neither SE nor Samsung. So, I chose the best FREE phone - the HTC Desire S!

Nicely wrapped with a plastic cover with a message.
It says, 'Important...To prevent damage, do not apply excessive pressure to the screen or device case. Please remove the phone from your trouser pockets before sitting down...'
Frankly, reading this first message didn't give me a good impression of the phone - made it sound like the phone was freaking fragile. On the plus side, I thought HTC was thoughtful enough to give a preemptive warning to its users.

The guide at the back of the plastic cover shows you how to open the cover, take the new battery out, insert the SIM card and close back the cover. Four easy steps but not so easy actually.
I struggled at the last step.
Somehow, the cover just did not slide snugly back into the case no matter how hard I tried.
After a few failed attempts, I finally covered the phone securely!

RM1 for a glass of water at Purple Cane Restaurant

Yesterday, we had our dinner at one of the Purple Cane restaurants in Klang Valley.

We were surprised that we were charged RM1 for a glass of water after paying the bill.

All of us agreed that RM1 for a glass of water was atrocious. After all, it was neither distilled water nor RO water but it was just plain boiled water!

Hence, as a family, we decided that we would no longer order water if we were to dine at Purple Cane.

Do you know what other restaurants that charge RM1 for a glass of water?

I'm sure Purple Cane is not the only one.

Keluarga Umno dan kroni kaya raya. Rakyat miskin

“Siapa bekukan aset NFC?

Menurut Lim (gambar), suami Shahrizat Dr. Mohammad Salleh Ismail selaku Pengerusi Eksekutif  NFCorp mendapat pendapatan sejumlah RM100,000 gaji bulanan, anak lelaki mereka yang berumur 31 tahun, Izmir selaku Pengarah Eksekutif berpendapatan RM45,000 sebulan, manakala, seorang lagi anak lelaki mereka,  Wan Shahinur Izran berumur 27 selaku CEO berpendapatan RM35,000 sebulan, manakala  Wan Izzanah Fatimah,  25 tahun, berpendapatan RM35,000 atas jawatan sebagai pengarah.

NFC fr issue to non-issue? DPM, Noh to the rescue

Lim said the Muhyiddin and Noh Omar’s involvement in the investigation of the scandal was “unacceptable”. — File pic
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 15 — DAP’s Lim Kit Siang today demanded an independent, “no-holds-barred” public inquiry to look into allegations of financial misappropriation surrounding the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC), following the prime minister’s announcement yesterday that assets of the publicly-funded project had been frozen.
In a statement here, Lim said the mere freezing of assets pending investigations by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the police was inadequate and gave scant indication that this would lead to a full-blown inquiry on the scandal itself.
“What the country needs is an independent, no-holds-barred public inquiry into the National Feedlot Corporation scandal, in particular the roles of all implicated ministers and leaders, including Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Noh Omar as former and current agriculture minister (respectively), and Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil and other Umno political leaders still unknown.
“Is [Datuk Seri Najib Razak] prepared to announce such a public inquiry or even to establish a Royal Commission of Inquiry, fully assisted by the police and the MACC, into the NFC scandal, declassifying all Cabinet and official documents for such an inquiry?” the DAP parliamentary leader asked.
Najib said yesterday he had instructed Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin along with Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Minister Noh Omar to study how best to resolve the NFC issue.
But Lim argued that the appointment of both Umno leaders to tackle the matter was “unacceptable” as both Muhyiddin and Noh would have been privy to details of the project at one time or another.
Muhyiddin was agriculture minister when the NFC was awarded to Shahrizat’s family. He later became deputy prime minister and was replaced by Noh.
Lim said both Umno ministers owed the public a full account of why they had allowed the NFC scandal to reach such a “disgraceful proportion” under their charge.
The NFC issue came to light when the 2010 Auditor-General’s Report pointed out that the corporation had badly failed to meet production targets.
Shahrizat applied for three weeks’ leave from her duties last week, after new allegations of bribery surfaced recently involving the RM250 million NFC project, which is operated by her husband and two children.

Sex sells! Prostitution at M'sian High Commission?!

Prostitution at Malaysian High Commission? ‘Bad data’, says Google

January 13, 2012

A Foreign Ministry spokesman says they have been trying to get the listing changed, but without much success.
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 13 — Passport applications, application forms and... prostitution: Those are the three things Google appears to suggest visitors are most likely to find at the Malaysian High Commission in London.
People searching for this particular High Commission via the internet search giant’s portal are helpfully presented with a map of its location, which eagle-eyed users have noted includes the word “prostitution” to describe services available there.
According to Google Malaysia’s head of communications and public affairs, Zeffri Yusof, the faux pas is likely “a case of bad data”.
Zeffri explained that Google is investigating how the word had ended up there, but until then, the firm cannot change the information as that would be considered an act of censorship.
He later told The Malaysian Insider that Google provided avenues for owners of the locations listed by search engine to both check and verify that information presented is accurate.
“In this case ... click ‘Business Owner?’ on the top right, and the Malaysian High Commission in UK can claim the listing and make sure what’s written there is OK (goes for any business or organisation),” he said in a text message.
A Foreign Ministry spokesman told The Malaysian Insider he received reports regarding the misleading information and had filed a complaint with Google about four to five days ago.
“We are aware of it. It is created by an individual and so if the individual does not want to amend the information, there is nothing we can do,” he said.
He emphasised that the information has not related to the ministry’s official page. He said he is trying to contact officials from Google to rectify the problem.
The association appears to have been culled from a blog called “Simple Life”, under its “more reviews” section.
The latest entry, dated 2008, was about the story of Malaysian child prodigy Sufiah Yusof who was found to be a prostitute, after cutting ties with her family.
“A gifted Malaysian student who won a place at Oxford at the age of 13 has been exposed as a US$260-an-hour (£130) prostitute, British press reports said, in a tragic tale of the prominent UK-based Muslim family’s fall from grace,” read the article posted in the blog.

Sultan 'okay' utk Hasan Ali digugur. Daulat Tuanku!

 Abdul Rahim Sabri
12:09PM Jan 13, 2012

Hadiah Tahun Baru Cina: BN ambil tanah Jln Sultan

Lee Way Loon
10:04AM Jan 13, 2012

Look at the bigger picture, voters told

KUALA LUMPUR: The rising cost of living, economic conditions and educational issues are set to affect voters' perception and sentiment in the upcoming general election, MCA secretary-general Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha said.

He expected the Opposition to go all out to cash in on these issues for political mileage.

He hoped the people would look at the bigger picture, such as taking into consideration the various ongoing efforts by the Government to develop the country and not be instigated by unverified reports, said Kong in anticipa-tion of a general election this year.

Kong Cho Ha's comments show that MCA is totally out of touch with the people!

The rising cost of living, economic conditions and educational issues - all these contribute to the bigger picture!

Corruption is the BIGGEST picture!
