Discount for M'sians visiting S'pore parks
KUALA LUMPUR: Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS) is offering
Malaysians a 50% discount on admission fees to the Jurong Bird Park,
Night Safari and Singapore Zoo.
WRS said in a statement Thursday
this was in conjunction with Malaysia's 54th Merdeka Day and Aidilfitri
celebrations at the end of this month.
The offer is valid for the period of Aug 27 to Sept 4 at all three attractions.
Malaysian visitors only need to show their immigration cards at the park entrances to claim the 50% discount. - Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 — The East-West Metramac toll between Cheras and Petaling Jaya will be abolished effective midnight, in another sign the Najib administration is courting voters for the next general election.
Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor made the announcement tonight. The 13km-long highway was built in 1992 and completed in 1994. It is understood the toll for this highway was due to expire in 2018.
The government had earlier cut toll rates for the New Pantai Expressway (NPE).
Malaysia's private sector toll road operators were asked to freeze, cut or abolish tariffs by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in late January after the country's number two operator, MTD Capital proposed a toll freeze on two of its highways without compensation.
"I have asked concession holders to retain toll rates or to reduce or abolish them. So they have come up with various suggestions. Whichever we can accept, we can go ahead first," Najib said.
"Apart from that, I have asked that the period of concession not be extended and that there will be no compensation from the government for suspended toll collections." he added.

GEMAS, Aug 28 – Motorists will enjoy toll-free rides on the Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP) and 20 per cent discounts on three other expressways on August 31.
Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor said no toll charges would be imposed on all types of vehicles using the LDP from 12.01am to midnight on August 31.
This will benefit about 450,000 vehicles which are using the LDP daily, he told reporters after attending the breaking of fast hosted by Tampin Umno division in Kampung Bangkahulu here today.
“This is the first time a concessionaire provides toll-free rides to show their gratitude to motorists and usher in the 53rd independence day celebration.
“I hope other concessionaires will emulate the LDP,” he added.
Meanwhile, Shaziman said three other concessionaires – Plus Expressway Sdn Bhd, Linkedua Sdn Bhd and Elite Sdn Bhd – had offered 20 per cent discounts to Class 1 motorist (personal car) on August 31 and September 1.
The discounts on the North-South Expressway, Seremban-Port Dickson Expressway, Johor Baharu-Singapore Second Link and the North-South Expressway Central Link are from 12.01am to 7am on both days.
The current discount during these hours on normal days are 10 per cent.
He said, however, motorists entering the Second Link from Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza would not enjoy the discount. – Bernama

No discount in police fines for traffic offences
Apparently, the 'no-discount' order came from the government!

KUALA LUMPUR (May 13, 2010): Traffic offenders will no longer be given discounts on police summons fines beginning from Monday.
According to an internal directive issued to all traffic police divisions today, traffic offenders will have to pay the compound fines according to the computer generated summonses and appeals for discounts or waivers will no longer be entertained.
Although federal traffic police when contacted declined to comment on the internal circular, sources said the order came from the government after a series of discussions with police.
Traffic summons compound vary according to the seriousness of offences and range between RM30 and RM300 -- the maximum amount according to traffic laws.
"As from Monday, if you get summoned for speeding then you will have to pay the maximum of RM300 and not RM200 as in the past after appealing for a discount," said a senior traffic police officer who declined to be named.
"If you obstruct traffic, then the fine would be RM100 and that will no longer be lowered to RM70 as in the past" he said.
Federal traffic police chief SAC II Datuk Abdul Aziz Yusof was not reachable for comment.
Last month, a bill to increase the RM300 fine to RM1,000 was withdrawn in Parliament after various quarters opined that the proposal would burden the people especially those from the lower income bracket. -- theSun

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 18, 2009) : Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mohd Nazri Aziz urged consumers not to be apathetic and exercise their rights to complain against errant taxi drivers "as only with their cooperation and that of the enforcement agencies can the taxi service be improved"

"We want the consumers to know their rights and quit the apathetic or lazy habit to complain," he said during the launching of the the public transport consumer rights awareness campaign here.
Mohd Nazri said flyers listing the consumers’ rights will be distributed to raise their awareness.
He said consumers may complain to the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board via hotline (1-800-88-9600), sms (15888), email (aduan@lpkp.gov.my ), website (www.lpkp.gov.my ) or the Community Development and Consumer Affairs Ministry.
I did once sms to 39900 when a commercial lorry was being driven recklessly somewhere in Melaka. A few days later, I received a call from LPKP informing me that the registration number of the lorry was not found in the system. In short, it was an unregistered vehicle (probably with a false license plate) or what they called a 'lori hantu', my friend said.

FREE Malay Mail as of today. Grab one copy now!
As usual, after work, I left the office and was walking towards the Malay Mail. Suddenly, I saw a man standing and reading next to a newspaper stand.
'Something unsual,' I thought to myself. So, I stopped to look. I could not believe what I saw the word 'FREE' on the stand.
Before taking a copy from the stand, I asked the man, 'FREE?'
He answered affirmatively, 'As of today.'
'Just like The Sun,' I said.
He somewhat disagreed, saying, 'Ours is the only afternoon paper.'
'Yeah, Sun is in the morning,' I said matter-of-factly.
Quickly, I took a FREE copy of the Malay Mail, said 'thank you' to the man and walked off feeling rather happy.
FREE is better than cheap mah.

THE Selangor Web-TV is fast becoming a hit among people both in the state and outside, including foriegners.
Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said the state-owned web-television, which started operations in March, had received overwhelming response from viewers. It had recorded 6.82 million hits until October.
“We had a big following during the Select Committee on Competence, Accountability and Transperancy (Selcat) proceedings,” he said in his reply to Kajang representative Lee Kin Sin (PR).
During the peak, Khalid said, the Web TV had received as many as 111,308 hits a day.
On a normal day, he said, it attracted an average of 50,728 visitors.
“Most viewers spent an average of between 30 and 60 minutes on each visit,” he said.
Khalid also said the state had spent RM800,065 on the web television broadcasts so far. This averaged RM100,000 per month and he felt the money was well spent.
“We cannot deny that our Web TV is very popular,” he said.
He added that the TV had not been officially launched yet.
Khalid said the objective of the TV was to reach out to the people of Selangor on the latest developments in the state, and the people had been following many events live, including the ongoing state assembly meeting.
The Web TV has not been officially launched yet.
Nevertheless, I don't think Khalid would mind me unofficially announcing it here in my blog! 8)
