Yesterday, I talked to two relatives - a mother and her daughter - at Kepong. I told them about the General Election in March. The daughter said the Chinese in Kepong were for DAP. Then, the mother (my mother's aunty) added, 'What are they (present government) doing? Wasting our money here and there (referring to corruption), giving out money here and  there (referring to goodies dished out)? We will surely vote for DAP.' ;)

Just last Friday, I had an interesting conversation with an Iranian.

I asked him, 'I remember you told me that you were not a Muslim.' He said yes.

Then, I asked, 'So, what is your religion?' He answered, 'I've studied other religions and I generally believe in the concept of God but I don't have a religion.'

'I thought most if not all people from the Middle East are Muslims. So, you are not one? Did you convert?' I probed further. He answered "No" to both of my questions.

'Muslims are not allowed to convert, right? So, did you convert in Iran or how did you avoid being found out?'

'That's why I'm here (in Malaysia),' he answered.

'But while you were in Iran, what did you do?' I asked.

'It's easy. Do what everyone else is doing. Just pretend,' he said while giving me a broad smile. Then, he went on to tell me about one popular song about people pretending and wearing masks.

Some not so sugary comments on Budget 2012. ;-)

Last Sunday, I informed one of my friends that contributions to all places of worship were eligible for tax deductions.

Then, I said, 'So, must vote for BN, ok.'

Instantly, he replied, 'That depends.'

I said to him, 'Budget 2012. Very good.'

He said emphatically, 'Too good.'

Yesterday, I was standing behind a senior citizen who was paying for his parking ticket at the  vending machine.

He told me, 'This machine won't accept coins. Why ah? Is it a holiday?'

'I think Najib is giving free parking after the Budget.' he said sarcastically.

Then, I said, 'Ya loh. I think so. Election is coming mah.'

One-off cash hand-outs are rightfully rakyat's money

Yesterday, I told one of my colleagues the 'good news' about the one-off cash assistance of RM500.

He said, 'In the first place, RM3000-and-below household income shouln't exist. The government should improve the economy so that the people's income will increase.'

He added, 'I think no employees in our company can qualify for this one-off payment.'

I agreed with him totally!

One-off cash hand-outs are rightfully rakyat's money that the government has wrongfully kept back from the rakyat!

WHO CAN TRUST UMNO-LINKED PRESS? NONE

Guan Eng: Umno-linked press out to lynch me

Fresh from pursuing a case against the Umno-linked Utusan Malaysia in the Penang High Court today, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng now plans to sue two more newspapers.

They are New Straits Times (NST) and Mingguan Malaysia in relation to their reports on an alleged dinner meeting in Singapore with several senior leaders of the People's Action Party.

The dinner was also reportedly attended by a Malaysia Airlines board director, Mohamad Azman Yahya and businessman Kalimullah Hassan who have already denied the reports published yesterday.

The reports quoted Perkasa information chief Ruslan Kasim as urging the three - Lim, Mohamad Azman and Kalimullah - to clear the air over the matter in the interests of the country.

However, Ruslan has since said that he had been misquoted in his statement to NST on Saturday and

Ruslan said what he said was that Azman should answer allegations that he has information on a secret meeting between Lim and PAP's top leaders during a dinner on Aug 12 in Singapore that was also attended by Kalimullah.

He also urged the trio to clarify if the topics discussed during the alleged meeting had involved Malaysian's national security.

Today, after a long, long time, I took a taxi home.

As the taxi was approaching the yet-to-be-demolished 50 sen toll structure, its driver, an Indian man, slowed down and was getting ready to pay toll.

I told him, 'No need to pay toll.'

'Oh, no need to pay toll?' he asked in a surprised tone.

I answered him in the affirmative and told him that the election was coming soon - hence, the government had abolished it.

'They always like that, gimmick. They think they can fool us,' he said.

I nodded my head and said, 'They can only bluff those kampung people.'


'Oh no. Nowadays, these kampung fellows are smart unlike last time. Now there's the Internet and they know how to Internet,' the taxi driver said matter-of-factly.


Well, I couldn't agree with him more.

Saiful an ex-student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Damansara Utama

Interestingly, I happened to chat with a colleague yesterday who told me that he was an ex-schoolmate of Saiful and even played soccer with him before!

I asked him if he had an extra session with him after the soccer session, he laughed and said no.

Allah macam mana? Well, UM...you kNOw who started it...

Two days ago, I asked a Malay Muslim at the petrol kiosk that was one of my favourite 'pit stops', 'Allah macam mana?'

He answered, 'Saya tak kisah...'

'Mana boleh?! Mesti ada pendirian sendiri...' I said.

'Mereka suka lah, bakar gereja, bakar surau..' Of course, 'mereka' was in obvious reference to UM-well, you-kNOw who...This Malay guy reads the Harakah ok...good guy.

Yesterday, I posed the same question to an Indian Muslim at the mamak stall. He answered, 'Politicized...' Wah....I was impressed by his answer...in fact he said it was aimed at bringing the opposition down, especially Anwar, the opposition leader!

Why get angry? People everywhere and Indonesia are using 'Allah'!

Those were the words coming from my Indonesian colleague when I showed him the news in Malaysiakini this morning:
Church fire-bombed ahead of protests
BREAKING NEWS The Metro Tabernacle church in Desa Melawati, Kuala Lumpur, has been fire-bombed in an attack that gutted its ground floor early this morning.

I told him, 'Exactly as you said.' Then, I explained to him that the issue was being politicised here in Malaysia and the politicians used it as a tool to advance their own agenda.

Then, my Indonesian colleague friend said matter-of-factly, 'Send them to Indonesia and we will KILL them.'

HAHAHAHA! I laughed not because killing was fun but at the way my Indonesia friend responded.

BIG BAD BOOK SALE by BIG BAD WOLF BOOKS!

The news headline 'Large crowd for large book sale' caught my attention.

Curious, I just had to 'drop by' at Amcorp Mall the next day, Friday, November 27, 2009. It was a public holiday, thank God.

I arrived at Level 3 of Amcorp Mall to find the queue at least 'four-shop' long. Didn't relish the thought of queuing up for a long time. 'Will it worth the wait?' I thought to myself and walked away.

After a few minutes of walking 'aimlessly', I decided to check out the queue again. It was slightly shorter! So, I quickly joined the queue. Soon, came another 'queuer' behind me, a bespectacled lady whom I struck up a conversation with. After exchanging a few lines she remarked 'You don't look like you're a reader...' I thought to myself, 'Duh, does anyone has to look like a reader?' Courteously, I just told her that I came to check out some children books for my son.

As usual, after work, I left the office and was walking towards the Malay Mail. Suddenly, I saw a man standing and reading next to a newspaper stand.

'Something unsual,' I thought to myself. So, I stopped to look. I could not believe what I saw the word 'FREE' on the stand.

Before taking a copy from the stand, I asked the man, 'FREE?'

He answered affirmatively, 'As of today.'

'Just like The Sun,' I said.

He somewhat disagreed, saying, 'Ours is the only afternoon paper.'

'Yeah, Sun is in the morning,' I said matter-of-factly.

Quickly, I took a FREE copy of the Malay Mail, said 'thank you' to the man and walked off feeling rather happy.

FREE is better than cheap mah.

A day in a life of a taxi driver

Today, chatted up with a taxi driver.

He shared with me stories of 'a day in a life of a taxi driver'.

He related to me one incident that happened to his fellow taxi driver who picked up two passengers with a box of goods. It was put in the boot. Upon arrival at the destination, the two passengers told the taxi driver that they needed to go the ATM to withdraw money. Thinking that the box was a form a 'security', the taxi driver let them alight. After a few minutes of waiting, the taxi driver felt something was amiss. So, he went to check the box in the boot. He found two big stones in the box!!

Before I left my friend's house last Sunday, I asked him, 'Eh, should I go for P1?'

He said, 'WAIT...not now...maybe later...'

'Oh why?' I asked. He answered, 'Now cannot cope with the demand..'

'So now if I get it, I will surely have to call you and complain lah...' My friend gave me a grin.

Well, this friend of mine is at the second-level support at P1.

I've another friend who is a consumer himself. When I asked him how P1 was, he gave me a not-so-satisfactory answer. So, I wasn't convinced. I guess you will have to test it for yourself. P1 should let potential customers 'test drive'! If good, I will surely sign up on the spot! How about that!

Torture allegations untrue

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today refuted allegations that its officers resorted to torture tactics when conducting investigations.

As such, it wanted the police to conduct an investigation into all reports claiming torture by MACC officers and take action against those who had made false reports.

It said in a statement that these people would have lodged the reports with the intention to tarnish the MACC's image and undermine the investigation against them.

If the allegations are true, will MACC admit? Of course not lah.
Today, chatted with a user while at work in client's office. The user said she would rather be an ordinary person and not be involved in politics. Why? In her own words, 'Nanti kena tolak jatuh mati dari bangunan.' Obviously, you know, I know WHO she was talking about.

JAM EVERYWHERE!

Teenager: "...we were stuck in a jam at SS2 yesterday...heard there was this protest in KL..."

Me: "Oh, the jam is not because of the protests. It's because of the police setting up ridiculous roadblocks in the city to prevent peaceful protestors from walking from point A to the palace, to serve a memorandum to the king."

Teenager: "Oh..." (nodded his head)

I just love it when the 'jam' conversation crops up.

I have had at least 10 conversations with people I met who complained about the jam and after explaining to them like how I did to the teenager this morning, 80% agreed with me or accepted my explanation. WUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I met Wella Ambassador Xandria Ooi's dad...

It's a small world after all...

I had read Xandria Ooi's articles in The Star in the past.

Anyway, I found out during lunch today that the man named Alex who ran the cafe @ Futsal Sports Centre, Jalan 19/1, PJ was Xandria's Ooi's dad.

I was about to pay him for my lunch when I noticed his 'purpley'-highlighted hair. 'You dyed your hair...,' I said matter-of-factly. He replied in the affirmative and added, 'Sponsored by Wella.' 'RELA?' I asked, thinking why on earth would RELA sponsor him. He repeated, 'Wella. My daughter is the ambassador for Wella.' Suddenly, WELLA hit me. 'Oh!' I exclaimed. Though I didn't ask him for his daughter's name but after a few Google searches after lunch, I found out that his daughter was indeed Xandria and there is an article here that tells how her dad Alex named her. ;-)
