Khazanah invests in Indian online lingerie retailer

Malaysia's sovereign wealth fund Khazanah Nasional Berhad has invested in Indian online lingerie startup Zivame, a venture aimed at helping more women buy undergarments online minus the awkwardness of shopping in a physical store.

Set up in 2011, the Bangalore-based company has secured Rs. 250 crore (RM161.6 million) in funding from both Khazanah and Zodius Technology Fund in its latest round of fund raising exercise.

Zivame's existing investors Kalaari Capital, Unilazer and IDG Ventures were also reported to have participated in the exercise.

News portal The Hindu.com reported that Zivame is Khazanah's maiden investment in the India's booming e-commerce industry.
"It is one of our investments in the technology and consumer sectors in India. Our investments in technology (and) in India have been profitable," a Khazanah spokesman, who declined to be named, said in an email to The Malaysian Insider.

Despite the foreign investment and a circular from Putrajaya in January this year to government-linked companies and statutory bodies to hold off foreign purchases amid a gloomy economic outlook, Khazanah assured that it remained committed to its domestic investment role.

"At the same time, we carry on with our domestic investment role in Malaysia, which formed a significant part of what we do," the spokesman added.

Zivame, which means "radiant me" in Hebrew and English, was co-founded by Richa Kar to tap the online retail market for undergarments in India, where buying lingerie is still seen as an awkward experience for women there.

Many physical undergarment shops in India have limited designs and are manned by male staff.

Zivame, which reportedly sells one bra a minute, offers a wide range of sizes and more than 500 designs to choose from.

"I was sure that Zivame.com was the solution to lingerie woes of thousands of Indian women," Richa said in an interview posted on the undergarment site.

Richa, the company's CEO, said the money it raised would be used to expand the business by attracting more online shoppers, strengthening its merchandise and developing its technology.

The company had recently announced that it will launch a lingerie app as 60% of traffic to its site are from mobile devices.

In an interview with online technology industry portal TechCrunch, Richa said the company planned to open 100 stores all over India in the next two years for fittings, although no physical sales will be made at these outlets.

"Our experience stores are aimed at enhancing the consumer connection. Customers can walk in and have a personalised experience to get their size, become aware of their bust shape, and know the kind of products that they could buy.

“We won’t be selling there, but visitors can place an order if they wish,” she was quoted as saying by TechCrunch.

Khazanah India Advisors Pvt. Ltd executive director of investment Chinta Bhagat said focus will be on helping the online retailer build up their "institutional capabilities".

"With Khazanah coming on board, Zivame’s funding needs are expected to be fully secure for the foreseeable future, and the focus will be on supporting them in building their institutional capabilities in the coming years,” he was quoted as saying by financial news site Dealstreetasia. – September 6, 2015.

What is this, I don't even? A 72-year-old grandfather, Liu Xianping, has become something of an internet sensation after he began modelling for his granddaughter's online clothing store.
Liu's granddaughter runs Yuekou, a partnership between herself and four other recent college graduates. While Liu was helping the girls unpack, "he picked up one piece and tried to give some advice on how to mix and match. We thought it was fun so we started shooting."

Liu himself sounds awesome:
"Why unacceptable (for someone like me to wear women’s clothes? Modelling for the store is helping my granddaughter and I have nothing to lose. We were very happy on the day of the shooting. I’m very old and all that I care about is to be happy."
The store's sales have apparently increased fivefold since Liu starting modelling. Netizens have compared Liu to Karl Lagerfeld and expressed jealousy over his slender legs.

Raja Rezza Shah & Rosmah: The Kapp fashion duo

Islamic Fashion Festival chairperson Raja Rezza Shah, who was in the entourage of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's wife Rosmah Mansor when she visited an Australian designer boutique, says she "made no sizeable purchase".

NONEResponding to Malaysiakini, Raja Rezza (left) said the 61 pieces purchased at the Carl Kapp Shop in Paddington in Sydney, Australia, recently were actually "stock" for his shop in London and when asked if these items included Rosmah's purchases, he answered in the affirmative.

He said these were stock for his shop in London, which would be a platform for designers of different religions and races from around the world but he did not reveal how many pieces Rosmah has bought.

Raja Rezza, who is currently abroad to promote the Islamic Fashion Festival, also said that he was upset that such "positive activity has been negatively manipulated".

Rosmah-Kapp: Spicy laksa for new Malaysian frens

Hornery mocks Kapp: PM's wife wasn't buying T-shirts

The Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) columnist Andrew Hornery stood by his report that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's wife Rosmah Mansor spent lavishly on designer Carl Kapp's clothing during a private holiday in the city.

Yesterday, through his Twitter account, Hornery (below) said, "Kapp said she ordered 61 garments. Said it was a "massive" order. His stuff is expensive. She wasn't buying T-shirts...

Having courted plenty of notoriety for his reports on Rosmah's 'lavish' spending on designer wear, the prominent lifestyle columnist also tweeted, I won't be holidaying in Malaysia anytime soon. I've been hung, drawn and quartered in print there. Shoot the messenger when the truth hurts?"

NONEIn replying to other users, Hornery maintained that his source is "rock solid" and insisted that Rosmah's purchases amounted to a considerable sum while promising a very spicy laksa for lunch in`honour of tomorrow's column that will serve as a tribute to his new friends in Malaysia!

Ooo...I can't wait for this juicy-and-very-spicy laksa!

Kapp verified Frockwriter's post on Rosmah's visit! ;)

Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) columnist Andrew Hornery has claimed that it was top notch designer Carl Kapp’s publicist who had pitched details of Rosmah Mansor’s alleged A$100,000 (RM325,000) shopping spree during her holiday in the Australian city.

NONEHornery (right) vouched for the contents of the gossip column published on Saturday, saying that he had verified the details with Kapp after the fashion blog Frockwriter reported on the visit of premier Najib Abdul Razak and wife Rosmah to the Kapp boutique apparently after the premier's wife saw Kapp's collection at a department store.
In responding to Rosmah’s accusation that his claims were “wildly exaggerated and not true”, Hornery told Malaysiakini in an email interview, “(Kapp’s) quotes are direct quotes, he is on the record.”
Hornery said that, even before the blog ran the story, Kapp’s publicist  had been calling fashion journalists and pitching the story to them days before the SMH went to town with the report though most declined, but Frockwriter did the story and Hornery was very aware of the significant news value, hence, the reason why he made contact with Kapp, sent a photographer to capture his image and published the story in the mainstream media.

carl kapp sydney designerHe related that Kapp (left) verified contents of the blog and followed up with specifics of Najib’s and Rosmah’s visit and said, “He (Kapp) was as candid as he could be.”

Frockwriter, run by fashion journalist Patty Huntington, was the first to reveal Rosmah’s visit to the boutique.

Kolumnis Andrew Hornery: Rosmah memang boros!

Kolumnis pertahan dakwaan Rosmah belanja RM325,000
Kolumnis Sydney Morning Herald Andrew Hornery mempertahankan dakwaannya bahawa isteri perdana menteri Rosmah Mansor membelanjakan lebih RM300,000 semasa lawatannya ke Australia.

"FLOM (wanita pertama Malaysia) dakwa saya membesar-besarkan secara liar lawatan sambil membeli-belahnya di Sydney?

"Saya tetap pertahankan setiap kata-kata saya.

Hugo Boss apology for Nazi past as book is published

Hugo Boss apology for Nazi past as book is published

Adolf Hitler salutes supporters from a car as he passes through Nuremberg, 5 September 1938
Hugo Boss supplied uniforms to both the party and armed forces
The German fashion firm Hugo Boss has apologised for its maltreatment of forced workers during World War II when it supplied the Nazis with uniforms.
It issued the apology to coincide with the publication of a new history of the company during the Hitler years, which it commissioned itself.
Its factory used 140 Polish and 40 French forced workers.
The book concludes that company founder Hugo Boss, whose past is already well documented, was a loyal Nazi.
"It is clear that Hugo F Boss did not only join the party because it led to contracts for uniform production, but also because he was a follower of National Socialism," wrote the author, Roman Koester, an economic historian at the Bundeswehr (English: German army) University in Munich.
Both Mr Koester and the company insist that it had no influence over the contents of the book, although it provided the funding.
