Today,
Malaysiakini carried a
story about Jeffrey Kitingan's two-year detention under ISA in the early 90s - that
he was always hungry. “It was not because we were not given any food. Our rations were meagre,” recalled Kitingan, who is Sabah PKR chief. “So we had to supplement our rations.”
Luckily for him and four of his fellow inmates, they managed to catch a
small snake on
two occasions and
a bird on a
third occasion. They set a trap to one side of the courtyard where they were allowed to exercise, and made a
barbecue of the animals over a crude fire.
Mmm...I can imagine that the
barbecued snakes and bird must have been the most delicious meals ever.
Better than the two years of standard fare put together! According to Kitingan, the
menu during his time in detention was a slice of bread, a bit of butter and sugar, and a plastic cup of coffee for
breakfast,
lunch - plain rice with either a small cut fish or chicken and
dinner same as lunch.
Friend of mine, an industrial designer working in one of the Japanese firms here in Malaysia, has started a blog.

Not too long ago, my friend said, 'To be a
famous blogger and get instantaneous hits, just write something
controversial or racial.' I think I can add to it that one can even become a
more famous blogger
after being featured in
Malaysiakini for being
controversial!
Today in
Malaysiakini, there is a
story about a blogger whose racist remark caused quite a stir after her mobile phone was snatched by two alleged Indian youths when she was having lunch at her office in Kuala Lumpur. Nevertheless, she has
posted her apology today, saying, “I offer an unconditional apology to every single person out there whom I've offended. I'll not be unfair to other races again and I'll learn to only get angry at those who really hurt me instead of generalising them according to race.”
By the way, did you know that '
Botak Chin', a
Chinese, made it into the annals of the police as a notorious gangster who portrayed himself as a modern-day Robin Hood? Click
here for more info.
I also wonder why races in Malaysia are so sensitive to each other (in a negative way). I think the problem stems from race-based politics.
After much contemplation, I've decided to subscribe to
Malaysiakini. Getting a '
FREE' trial from my friend helped me to decide even sooner.
So, what's the
top news in
Malaysiakini now?
All eyes on PM as he weighs his options. Well, basically, he only have two options - to stay or to quit. Hehe...
Interestingly, a party insider told
Malaysiakini about the early exit - “It was designed to give Pak Lah an honourable exit,” said the party insider. “The grassroots don’t want him to stay because they don’t think he can contain Anwar Ibrahim. But we cannot be seen to be pushing him out. That’s not in our Malay culture, so we have to compromise.”
Poor Pak Lah, he really has no choice, does he? To put in a
not-so-nice way, he's being '
fixed' by his own people! It's so obvious that he's being pushed '
gracefully' when the
original exit plan was
2010.
