KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 — Sultan of Perak Sultan Azlan Shah cannot dismiss Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin from his office because the latter (mentri besar) does not hold office at the pleasure of the ruler.

This is the ruling of High Court Judge Datuk Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahim when he declared Mohammad Nizar as the legitimate Mentri Besar of Perak on May 11.

In his 78-page judgment released to the media today, Abdul Aziz said once a mentri besar was appointed, he and his executive council were answerable to the State Legislative Assembly and to no one else.

If the 1 High Court judge could produce the 1 written judgment within 1 week, why couldn't the 3 Court of Appeals judges? Are the 3 judges of Court of Appeals incompetent and inferior to the 1 High Court judge?

The roof of the 50,000-capacity Gong Badak stadium in Terengganu collapsed at about 7.30am today.

In the incident, 60 percent of the roof at the stadium collapsed, including that above the royal box at the grand stand.

Eyewitnesses told Malaysiakini that several vehicles were crushed by the falling roof.

Freelance journalist Sazali Mohd Nor told Malaysiakini that the high roof at one end of the one-year-old stadium had collapsed.

The low roof on the other end of the stadium was unaffected.

Malaysiakini learnt that the stadium's consultants were worried about the integrity of the roofs which were built by a foreign contractor.

The RM270 million Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium, the biggest stadium in the east coast, was built to host the 2008 Sukma Games.
