Look at the bigger picture, voters told

KUALA LUMPUR: The rising cost of living, economic conditions and educational issues are set to affect voters' perception and sentiment in the upcoming general election, MCA secretary-general Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha said.

He expected the Opposition to go all out to cash in on these issues for political mileage.

He hoped the people would look at the bigger picture, such as taking into consideration the various ongoing efforts by the Government to develop the country and not be instigated by unverified reports, said Kong in anticipa-tion of a general election this year.

Kong Cho Ha's comments show that MCA is totally out of touch with the people!

He has charged Anwar with sodomy, but not another politician who was caught with his pants down.

Attorney-General (AG) Abdul Gani Patail has been accused of “dishonesty” and the lack of even-handedness in prosecuting Anwar Ibrahim for sodomy.

Anwar's lawyer Sankara Nair said this in a statement today, in which he questioned why similar action has not been taken against Dr Chua Soi Lek, who has admitted to involvement in oral sex.

Sankara did not name Chua, but referred to the video footage implicating “a former minister of health of the ruling (coalition) ,who has just won the presidency of his party”.

“The (DVD) has been in the public domain for about two years. The video shows him engaging in oral sex with a woman. He also publicly admitted that he was the actor in the video.

“Indeed oral sex with or without consent is no different from anal sex and it clearly falls within the same Section 377B of the Penal Code under which Anwar is charged.”

LOS ANGELES, Jan 11 – Gents, if you want your swimmers to get some tail action, best tuck into a plate of fish.

To understand the importance of omega-3 fatty acids in male fertility, it’s important to understand the anatomy of sperm.

As researchers from the University of Illinois explain it, normal sperm are composed of a cap-like structure that surrounds the anterior end of the sperm head called the acrosome.

It’s here, in the cap, where the enzymes needed to successfully penetrate an egg are housed and concentrated.

But in order for the sperm to develop this arch or cap-like structure and the rest of the building blocks needed to fuse the rest of the sperm together – pointy head and extra long tail – sperm need a certain omega-3 fatty acid called docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), the study, announced Monday, found.

“Without DHA, this vital structure doesn’t form and sperm cells don’t work,” said Timothy Abbott, study co-author.

Marine fish like salmon and tuna are excellent sources of DHA.

The scientist began to investigate the importance of DHA in male fertility after finding that mice which lacked the fatty acid were basically infertile.

When DHA was introduced into the mice’s diet, however, fertility was completely restored.

Because DHA is also abundant in tissues like the brain, retina and the testes, authors of the study say their research could have implications relating to brain function and cognitive illnesses like dementia and vision.

Meanwhile, another study out of Harvard University last year also found that poor nutrition can damage sperm quality, as those who consumed diets high in saturated fats including deep-fried and processed foods had poor-quality swimmers compared to men who ate whole grains, vegetables and fish regularly.

Foods that have been shown to boost male fertility include eggs, salmon, natural yogurt, nuts, seeds, berries, sweet potatoes, broccoli and asparagus. – AFP

Mahathir launched ABU in 2008, claims Raja Petra

(Malaysian Digest) - Self-exiled blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin yesterday claimed that former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed was the one who had 'launched' the ABU (Anyone But Umno) movement in 2008.

In his latest article in Malaysia Today, he said in 2008 Dr Mahathir had launched ABU when the latter told a press conference to not vote Umno in the 2008 general election.

Dr Mahathir was quoted as saying “vote anyone but Umno” when he met the Chinese association leaders and told them to support the opposition, especially in Penang, then prome minister Tun Abdullah Badawi’s home state, resulting in the opposition taking over that state.

“I don’t care whether Dr Mahathir is sincere about supporting the opposition or whether he had ulterior motives – such as to bring Abdullah Badawi down.

“Dr Mahathir’s charity is not my concern. How the opposition can benefit by Dr Mahathir becoming Umno’s enemy is. And that is what I focused on," said Raja Petra who is also the editor and founder of the Malaysia Today portal.

In May 2008, Dr Mahathir along with fellow Umno veteran Tan Sri Sanusi Junid announced that they are quitting Umno.

Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced his decision, citing a lack of confidence in the current leadership of then prime minister Abdullah.

Mahathir had been critical of his appointed successor Abdullah or fondly known as Pak Lah, blaming him for the party's disappointing performance in the 12th general election where Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) won the March 8 election with a simple majority, and saw four more states join Kelantan under Opposition rule.
