Perak Menteri Besar Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin today clocked in to work as usual at 10am, along with his exco members, but 45 minutes later they were out of the state secretariat building.

In that 45 minutes, Mohd Nizar's press conference was interrupted twice by state secretary Abdul Rahman Hashim and Ipoh police chief Azisman Alias.

Mohd Nizar refused to hold a meeting with Abdul Rahman and left with his convoy to his official residence where he is expected to hold a press conference later.

Below is the chain of events as it happened this morning beginning with the latest entries:

12.40pm: Perak state assembly speaker V Sivakumar said he will be sending a letter to Sultan Azlan Shah seeking consent for a special state assembly sitting.

The sitting is to determine who actually controls the assembly.

He also said that he will be urging the sultan to postpone the swearing in ceremony of Zambry Abd Kadir as the BN menteri besar today at 3.30pm.

The letter will be sent as soon as possible, he said.

The brief press conference was held at DAP headquarters in Ipoh.

11am: The police closed the road in front of the menteri besar's official residence until 7pm to prevent illegal gatherings.

10:45am: Perak CPO Zulkifli Abdullah said the police have secured the state secretariat building upon a request by the state secretary.

Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin today took the risk of irking the Perak ruler by refusing the step down from his menteri besar post after being told to do so by the sultan.

"I apologise for rejecting the decision of the sultan. We are just pleading for the proper process to be followed," he told reporters after attending a meeting of Pakatan Rakyat leaders at the menteri besar's residence in Ipoh this afternoon.

Mohd Nizar argued that the sultan should have accepted his request for the assembly to be dissolved.

"Let the people determine on who they want as their representatives. If BN wins, we will accept it willingly," he said.

All eyes are on Nizar's next move. This man Nizar - how ironic it is that he was the MB that the Perak Sultan felt was the best compromise choice among the Pakatan parties after the last general election. Who could have guessed what an inspired choice that was - for Nizar went on to earn tremendous respect among the people of Perak for his concern for the people. Instintively, many Perakians sense that he is a leader they can identify with - and they seem proud of him.

11.00pm Ceremah ends peacefully following a prayer session. Mohd Nizar the only top brass to speak. Others key figures present like Anwar, Hadi, Kit Siang and Guan Eng did not address the crowds, estimated at about 6,000 who were requested to disperse peacefully. They were told to attend Friday prayers at Ubudiah Mosque in Kuala Kangsar tomorrow.

10.45pm: MB Mohd Nizar speaks. Says Pakatan will boycott swearing in of BN reps tomorrow although they have been invited. He continues, "We will never recognise this illegal BN government. We will create a wave of protest throughout the state and fight together with the people of Perak to the last drop of our blood."

10.40pm: About 1000 people are on the street between Sam Tet School and the MB's residence, reducing four lanes to one. The traffic jam created as a result cause many impatient motorists to honk, this time probably to show their annoyance.

10.32pm: Announcement was made that electricity supply to the MB's residence may be disconnected. If that should happen, the crowds were advised to stary calm.

10.30pm: Motorists passing by the MB's residence honk in support. Inside, speeches are punctuated by shouts of Reformasi and Hancur BN. Crowds continue to swell. Many line up the street outside MB's residence.

10.20pm: Crowds growing. Police are not preventing people from entering the MB's residence. The hall where the ceremah is held is totally packed. Many willingly stand outside to listen to the speeches from Pakatan leaders. Crowds estimated at 4,000 now. FRU troops now seen patrolling outside the MB's residence.

10pm: Ceremah is ongoing in the MB's residence. About 3,000 people are said to be in attendance listening attentively on the sprawling grounds of the official residence. Crowds appear orderly. Situation calm and peaceful. Only about 50 policemen present. Pakatan bigwigs yet to take to the stage

1.32pm: PKR source says that the sultan had asked Mohd Nizar to step down as menteri besar to allow a smooth transistion of power at their brief meeting today but the latter had refused to do so.

1.30pm: Najib just ended his Perak Umno meeting and left the party's state headquarters without calling a press conference.

1.25pm: Najib is still at the Umno meeting. However, it is learnt that he will not be holding a press conference after the meeting.

1.05pm: Perak MB Mohd Nizar leaves the palace. He waved and smiled at reporters. He just said: "Good signs. Alhamdulliah." His meeting with the sultan lasted 15 minutes. He had entered the palace at 12.50pm.

Mohd Nizar will be holding a press conference along with Pakatan leader Anwar Ibrahim and DAP leader Lim Guan Eng at 3pm.

12.50pm: Najib is presently chairing an Umno meeting in Ipoh where the choice of the new menteri besar is being discussed. He is expected to call for a press conference within the next hour.

12.40pm: There is an indication that Sultan Azlan Shah will allow Barisan Nasional to form a state government with the participation of three independents.

It is learnt that the sultan met with the four defectors at Istana Kinta this morning.

Malaysiakini: PAKATAN RAKYAT STILL RULES

Perak Menteri Besar Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin today said there was no reason for him to step down from his post as requested by the state's Barisan Nasional chief Najib Abdul Razak.

He said that he was still the head of the state government until the state assembly was dissolved by the sultan.

Speaking at a press conference at his official residence at 10pm tonight, Mohd Nizar said the suggestion by Deputy Prime Minister Najib did not reflect what was stipulated in the Perak constitution.

"Under what condition and under what law is the Barisan Nasional deputy chief referring to? Whatever that you want to do, (it) has to be based on the Perak constitution.

"Let's be professional about it. We Perakians are professional people. We would like the would-be prime minister to observe all those conditions as well," he said.

Based on the Perak constitution, Mohd Nizar said Pakatan was still the legitimate government unless the state assembly sits to pass a motion of no-confidence or if the coalition government resigns.

"Changing governments is not like changing your favourite coffee stall. You have to follow the procedures," he added.

Mohd Nizar also chided Najib for trying to take over the Perak government through unconstitutional means.

"He is just trying to scare people... he wants to do things that is not respecting the Perak constitution.

"I humbly request Najib - who will soon be prime minister - to exercise his fairness and justice to the people of Perak," he said.

To a question, Mohd Nizar said that the Pakatan government would continue to function normally until the sultan decides on a request to dissolve the state assembly.

They represent the worst species of politicians — self-serving; greedy; unprincipled; cowardly and dishonest.

Best of all, Najib justified the defection.

The Nut Graph reported: To another question about the morality of the new BN state government, Najib stressed, in an apparent reference to Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim: "No, we are not the ones who started this. Somebody wanted to take over the government on 16 Sept."

Apparently, Najib who lacks much creativity, is the copy cat. WUAHAHAHAHA
