This seems to be a political announcement to diminish the criticism of Malaysian handling of this terrible, tragic airline disaster. As others note here, there is no further evidence, no physical evidence at all. For days now we have heard of calculations and theories alone, of where the plane is. But even with today's announcement by the Malaysian PM, there is not one report of a physical sighting being confirmed as having come from the airplane. Moreover, iit seems extremely callous, if correctly reported, that families were notified of the Malaysian announcement today via text message. That's cold.

Angry Chinese nationals barge into briefing room @ Sama Sama Hotel Putrajaya - malaysiakini.com - #mh370 - #PrayForMH370

@ Malaysiakini.com
http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/257575

There was chaos at the auditorium used by the authorities for the daily press briefings on Flight MH370 after a group of Chinese nationals barged in to speak to reporters.

The group, numbering at about a dozen people, said they were relatives of those on board the plane and want to express their anguish and anger after being brought to Malaysia, but are left with little information on the progress of the search for the missing plane.

A press officer announced through a microphone that the venue is for Department of Civil Aviation's (DCA) press conferences only, and security personnel arrived shortly after to remove the gatecrashers by force.

Some of them were seen crying and screaming as they were dragged into the media secretariat office in an adjacent room, which is off-limits to media personnel.

"I've been here for four days! Please help me get back my son!" cried one elderly woman in Mandarin.

"From the South China Sea and now elsewhere. We don't know where the plane had gone... There is no information at all," cried another person, who was on the verge of tears.

Another was seen carrying a banner which read "We are against the Malaysian government for hiding the truth and delaying the rescue. Release our families unconditionally!"

The entire episode lasted less than 10 minutes.

Hisham: It is heart-wrenching for me too

The incident happened as reporters were stationed in the auditorium. The standard practice is to reserve seats about an hour before the press briefing, which usually takes place at 5.30pm.

Relatives of some of the 152 Chinese nationals aboard the missing Flight MH370 have been flown to Malaysia and are currently staying at a hotel in Putrajaya.

MAS has claimed that they have been assigned a staff for each family in Malaysia and China, who will provide updates on the progress of the search.

However, there are some families who have grown impatient with the lack of progress while several families, in Beijing, have threatened to go on hunger strike.

Meanwhile, Acting Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein (left), during the press briefing which followed, said he could empathise with what the families are going through.

"One of our main priorities is how to handle their emotions and the families. That is why we are sending a team to Beijing.

"I hope and appeal to everybody, that we are trying our very best. This is also heart-wrenching for me," he said.

Earlier during the briefing, Hishammuddin had also said that they are sending a high-level team that comprise of representatives of the prime minister, foreign ministry and the DCA to Beijing.

Fresh chaos

As the press briefing was going on, another round of commotion erupted elsewhere when the families were escorted out of the media secretariat office under heavy police guard at about 5.40pm.

Journalists were pushed away when they tried to approach the Chinese nationals as they were being taken to an upper floor.

Several journalist fell down while policemen could be heard shouting "tahan, tahan (hold them back)"  at the press.

After the family members were led to the new room, a police line was formed outside to bar entry of pressmen.

"Who is the officer in charge here and why we are not allowed to talk to the Chinese families?" asked a BBC journalist while recording a live report.

The latter was later pushed against a wall while he tried to approach Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar for comment at about 6pm.

The police chief then entered the room without talking to the press.

A group of angry family members of Chinese passengers on board the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 caused a stir when they stormed into the auditorium at the Sama Sama Hotel  where the daily press briefings are scheduled to be held and accused Putrajaya of hiding information and misleading the public about the search and rescue operation.

#MH370 Malaysia lets slip chance to intercept MH370 - #FMFA2014 Future Music Festival Asia: Death toll rises to 6 @ SAYS.com

Malaysia lets slip chance to intercept MH370

MH370 When any unidentified aircraft flies over the country, the natural reaction is to scramble jets to intercept the possible threat. However, this was not the case for Malaysia.

In fact, Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 flew westwards after making a turn back over the Gulf of Thailand, undetected by the military, across Peninsular Malaysia and the country’s second largest city in Penang, according to a report by the New York Times.

“Inside a Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) control room on the country’s west coast, where American-made F-18s and F-5 fighters stood at a high level of readiness for emergencies exactly like the one unfolding in the early morning of March 8, a four-person air defence radar crew did nothing about the unauthorised flight,” the report says.

This failure was not only a breach in air space security, which would make Malaysia vulnerable to attacks, but it also meant the country lost a precious opportunity to intercept Flight MH370 which had then flown into the vast unknown.

“If the aircraft ended up in the southern Indian Ocean, as some aviation experts now suggest, then floating debris could have subsequently drifted hundreds of kilometres, making it extremely hard to figure out where the cockpit voice and data recorders sank,” it said.

Not only did the team at the RMAF base in Butterworth not notice or failed to report a blip on the defensive and air traffic radar, the crew at two radar installations at Kota Baru also failed to report the apparent intrusion.

The report said the military only became aware of contact on their own radar after reviewing the recordings several hours after Flight MH370 vanished from civilian radar at 1.21am on March 8, over the Gulf of Thailand.

‘Days of searching in the wrong place’

RMAF chief Rodzali Daud only acknowledged the radar data on the fifth day, after a fruitless search for MH370 in the South China Sea, justifying that the military needed time to verify whether the blip was in fact from MH370.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak finally announced a suspension of the search in the South China Sea last Saturday, eight days after a multi-national search operation involving 14 countries in the wrong direction.

As of yesterday, the search largely remained on a pause, with Malaysia attempting to reorganise the operation to now focus attention on two corridors, one from the borders of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan to the northern Thai border and the second from Indonesia to the south of the Indian Ocean.

The new locations were established based on military radar data and satellite pings which MH370 had automatically sent despite its communication systems being mysteriously turned off, on purpose.

As the loss of MH370 enters the 10th day today, the new search area includes vast tracks of lands across 11 countries and remote parts of the Indian Ocean.

– 13 Mac, 2014.
