PM: Tear down the walls that divide

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has urged the people to restore the bridge that connects Malaysians and tear down the walls that separate them.MORE

Today is Malaysia's 52nd Independence Day and the theme for this year's celebrations is "1Malaysia. People First. Performance Now."

1Malaysia. Obviously, there is only one Malaysia as there is only one Singapore, Indonesia etc.
People First.
Finally, the government accepts the 'Ketuanan Rakyat' concept.
The government had better be grateful to the people at all times, serving the people.
Most of all, the government must remember WHO has put it in power.
Performance Now.
If not now, when? Now people first, right?

najib altantuya: Low-key Merdeka rally amid H1N1 fears - nizar nizar

The event was held at Parliament Square instead of Dataran Merdeka, and was confined to a rally and performances without the usual parade.MORE

This is perhaps the first low-key Merdeka celebration. H1N1 is indeed a 'blessing in disguise'. No excessive spending on celebration. After all, we don't really know who 'untung' from all the millions spent each year - some people with deep pockets for sure.

Well, I wore black today...Not because of 1BlackMalaysia. Just felt like wearing black.

MERDEKA GIFT: PUMP PRICE RISES

It's official though the news is not new. The Star Online reported on February 20, 2009 that RON97 petrol to cost more in July. For whatever reason, the plan has been deferred to September.

So, starting tomorrow, September 1, new pump price is as follows:

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 31 — The government has hiked up the price of premium fuel RON97 from RM1.80 to RM2.05 a litre while the new RON95 petrol replacing RON92 will be sold at RM1.80 per litre.

The prices are effective tomorrow, state news agency Bernama reported.

Although the price of Ron 97 increased substantially — by 78 sen — to become RM2.70 on June 08, the price dropped twice within six months in line with the global drop in crude oil prices to RM1.80 on December 16.

The Domestic Trade Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob did announce on May 12 that the price of RON97 will rise by 20 sen to RM2.00 on Sept 1.

The price of global crude oil was in the US$125 (RM441) neighbourhood before June 2008 when the first major increase was announced last year. Today, crude oil is nestled at US$71 (RM251).

(Source: The Malaysian Insider)

There you are! For all of us who used RON97, it is now a 'premium' petrol.

Now, we've no choice but to use RON95 - its quality almost the same as RON97, only slightly more inferior than 'premium'. ;-)

He said of the four campaigns, that on the wearing of nose and mouth masks, personal hygiene, use of sanitisers and hand cleaning, only the wearing of masks had given the public the most awareness. "Public awareness on measures to check the spread of H1N1 is still low, despite the many campaigns held from May to Aug. This includes high risk groups.

'Cow head' demo makes it around the world

Malaysia has been the focus of the international media for the last month but for things that we rather wished was disinformation, but in fact, are not.MORE

Full report by Malaysiakini (Source: Mkini - Support Mkini - Subscribe to Mkini!):
The Shah Alam demonstration against the construction of a Hindu temple - complete with a severed cow's head - wrapped up a month of negative international news reports over the state of religious tolerance in Malaysia.

Earlier this month, the international press focused on the caning sentence imposed by a Pahang Syariah Court on part-time model Kartika Seri Dewi Shukarno's for consuming beer.

This was followed by news of the government's decision to restrict Muslims from attending the concert of international pop sensation Black Eye Peas, because it was sponsored by an alcohol company.

Unsavory terms used to describe incident

Now, international news organisations have focused on the temple row, in which protest organisers were said to have threatened bloodshed if the temple was built.

"Malaysia Muslims protest proposed Hindu temple," read the headlines of the Associated Press report.

"Racial tensions have risen in recent years amid complaints by the minorities that their rights are being eroded along with the rising influence of Islamic hard-liners," the report said.

The wire report also notes that the protest occurred just three days before Malaysia celebrates its 52nd independence day and amid a new campaign by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to promote national integration through the 1Malaysia concept.

India's news portal dnaindia.com also reported the incident in unsavory terms.

Some 50 protestors marched from the state mosque to the nearby Selangor government headquarters condemning the relocation of a temple to the Section 23 vicinity.

The protestors condemned the move, ordered by the state government, because the Section 23 area was a Muslim-majority neighbourhood.

Let me be there - Olivia Newton John - with lyrics

Wherever you go
Wherever you may wander in your life
Surely you know
I always wanna be there
Holding you hand
And standing by to catch you when you fall
Seeing you through
In everything you do

Let me be there in your morning
Let me be there in you night
Let me change whatever's wrong and make it right
Let me take you through that wonderland
That only two can share
All I ask you is let me be there

Watching you grow
And going through the changes in your life
That's how I know
I always wanna be there
Whenever you feel you need a friend to lean on, here I am
Whenever you call, you know I'll be there

Let me be there in your morning
Let me be there in you night
Let me change whatever's wrong and make it right
Let me take you through that wonderland
That only two can share
All I ask you is let me be there

The Star Online reported: 'Torture' used at MACC office

SHAH ALAM: There is evidence that Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission officers physically and psychologically abuse witnesses and suspects during questioning, a lawyer told the inquest into Teoh Beng Hock’s death.

Gobind Singh Deo, who is holding a watching brief for the political aide’s family, said he had in his possession police reports and photographs of injuries suffered by an individual to support his claim.

He told coroner Azmil Muntapha Abas that the person would be called to testify what had happened to him when Selangor MACC officers interrogated him at their office in Plaza Masalam, the same place where Teoh’s body was found on July 16.

“The witness will identify the MACC officers involved. However, I cannot reveal the name of the witness now because of security reasons,” said Gobind.

MK reported that the MACC legal advisor objected to Gobind's application to use the police report as grounds to question Ashraf and other MACC officers citing that the police report "is not relevant". He said that until the allegations were proven, it could not be taken into account. Before taking his seat, he said, "Even it if did happen (in other case)...?" but he failed to finish his sentence.

Judging by the title above, one can roughly guess what it is all about.

Yup. The sermon today was all about THE ENVIRONMENT.

Firstly, the reason to care.

Yes, the first reason goes all the way back to Genesis - the story of God's creation. Genesis 1: 26 - Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

Yes, man was made to rule over every living thing. In other words, to take care of planet Earth. Eco laws mentioned: Ex 23:12, Ex 34:21, Deu 22:6-7, Deu 28, Deu 20:19-20.

DESCRIPTION of video at Malaysiakini.TV:
Addressing a conference on the strategic management of anti-corruption programme , deputy chief commissioner of MACC, Abu Kassim Mohamed pointed out that it is the norm for an enforcement agency like MACC to be criticised when carrying out their duties.

"Every time we investigate a particular person for alleged corruption, there will be slander or criticisms against the enforcement agency.

The question that MACC or Abu Kassim should ask is 'WHY IS IT THAT every time MACC investigate a particular person for alleged corruption, there will be slander or criticisms against the enforcement agency?'

Is it because there are 'Doubts over MACC's partiality'?

Umno leader furious over Rohaizat attack

Umno vice-president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was clearly unhappy when reporters questioned on the political credibility of the party's candidate for Permatang Pasir by-election.

Describing the controversy over Rohaizat Othman's disbarment by the Bar Council as a personal business matter, he called on parties, including his own Umno leaders, to stop talking about the issue.

Wah serious ah, this fellow. He kept saying it was a personal issue. He has obviously forgotten our very own CSL whose 'personal' matter became 'public'.

Hello, once a person becomes a public figure, his 'personal' becomes 'public'. And yes, isn't basic personal character the most important criteria for one to be in public office? Rohaizat's disbarment shows a fundamental flaw of personal character.

NARROW IS THE WAY THAT LEADS TO LIFE...

Better for PKFZ dispute to be resolved 'amicably'

Muhyiddin Yassin wants both the parties who are embroiled in a dispute over the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) issue to resolve the matter amicably.

The deputy prime minister said quarrelling in the open would not only affect BN chances in the Permatang Pasir state by-election but also mar the image of the government and its leaders.

"It's better for them to resolve the matter amicably," he told reporters after visiting the Bukit Kepong town, and meeting the residents in the area today.

Heaven and hell: Nik Aziz told to repent

Yes, only Allah has the power to determine whether one would go to heaven or hell.

That's the truth upheld not by the Muslims only but the Christians as well.

Malaysiakini reported:
He, however, admitted that he was not one who could determine "who goes to heaven or hell".

He said "only God decides to who goes to heaven or hell", but upheld his earlier statement that the Islam practised by Umno would not guarantee its supporters a place in heaven.

A blatant lie, says former law partner

UPDATED 1.21PM Yusri Isahak, the former legal partner of Rohazait Othman, has refuted claims that the Permatang Pasir candidate was innocent of any wrongdoings.MORE

Malaysiakini reported that Rohaizat declined to comment on Yusri's disclosure today saying, "I have to read Yusri statement first before I can comment anything about it."

If Rohaizat is innocent, he should have the gut to say that he is innocent.

Why wait to read Yusri's statement first?

If Yusri is lying, then Rohaizat is telling the truth.

Can't be both telling the truth or both telling lies?

Muhyiddin now jumps to Rohaizat's defence

Why SD?

Rohaizat should just follow the example set by his leader who swore in Allah's name that he never knew Altantuya.

Q&A: PKFZ sizzled like 'koay teow'

Adding a culinary twist, the Sarawak politician says the trial by media was akin to char koay teow, a colloquial term for cooking up a small issue.MORE

After reading the article, Tiong seemed to have given sound answers.

Responding to the statement that people found it strange that someone from SPDP would finance MCA activities, he said he helped others besides MCA. As an example, he mentioned that he had financially supported S Vigneswaran, former MIC youth chief. Tiong also said that when helping people, one should not look at race, then our country would be in harmony.

Hmmm...this guy sounds real. If he's for real, we should be happy lah..after all, he should 'pay back' to society after getting so much money...Of course, how he got the money is another question altogether. 'Black' money or 'white' money? No one knows for sure. ;)

Permatang Pasir folks may be just villagers but I am sure they are humble and honest people...

This is what Ragunath, Bar Council President, said of Rohaizat's case:
“Rohaizat was disbarred on March 7 last year and he appealed against the Bar Council decision to the High Court, which also dismissed his appeal on Aug 12 this year.”
