Carpet dealer confirms can’t mention Umno in lawsuit

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29 — Controversial businessman Deepak Jaikishan has confirmed that he cannot mention Umno’s name in his lawsuit against Senator Datuk Raja Ropiaah Abdullah’s Awan Megah (M) Sdn Bhd for allegedly cheating him in a multi-million ringgit land deal.
Justice Zabariah Mohd Yusof barred the carpet dealer from mentioning any political party’s name as the lawsuit is a civil matter between two companies.
She had earlier struck off the government, the Ministry of Defence, the Land and Mines Office and a government company from the lawsuit.
“I have been barred from mentioning a name that is greater that the Almight God,” he told The Malaysian Insider this evening.
“Going forward, no one is allowed to mention the name U M N O,” the 40-year-old businessman said, “because there is this precedent now”.
Deepak had agreed to buy three parcels of land in 2007 for RM13 million and a RM72 million bank guarantee for a land bond from Raja Ropiaah, who was awarded a RM100 million privatisation deal for the development of the defence research centre called Pusat Pengajian Pertahanan Nasional (Puspahanas).
But the Selangor Wanita Umno chief had allegedly sold one parcel for RM2 million in cash and a RM16 million overdraft facility in a “joint venture” with Guppyunip Sdn Bhd, a company specialising in plasticware, prompting the carpet dealer to put a caveat on the land in Bukit Raja and lodge a police report last July.
Her lawyers today said Deepak is not entitled to the land as his company Astacanggih Sdn Bhd had asked for a refumd and its RM72 million land bond had expired.

The court will hear submissions for the lawsuit on Dec14.
