Cabinet declassifies Bukit Antarabangsa landslide report - nizar nizar nizar nizar

On the leak of the report in the Internet, Shaziman said his Works Ministry has already lodged a police report on Dec 2.

TAMPIN, Dec 5 (Bernama) -- The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) can now announce to the public the investigation report on the Bukit Antarabangsa landslide in December last year.

Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor said the government had approved the MPAJ's request to publicise the report following the decision reached at the Cabinet meeting Friday.

"The decision was made to ensure that the interest and safety of the people in the area are safeguarded. I hope the MPAJ will not merely disclose the report but also understand and implement the recommendations made to improve the situation in the area so that the possibility of a recurrence can be reduced," he told reporters after a 'gotong-royong' programme to repair the houses of poor families in Kampung Baru Air Kuning Selatan, near here.

He said that on Nov 25, the MPAJ had written a letter to him requesting for the report on the landslide in the area to be declassified under the Official Secrets Act (OSA) 1972.

The application was made by the MPAJ after the Public Works Department had handed over the technical report on the landslide to the local authority, which would later be publicised.

In the incident on Dec 6, 2008, five people were killed and 14 bungalows destroyed at Taman Bukit Mewah, Bukit Antarabangsa, Hulu Klang.

Shaziman, who is also the Member of Parliament for Tampin, said the government had granted the request to publicise the report not because it had been widely reported in the internet, but following procedure that had been stipulated.

On the leak of the report in the internet, he said the ministry had already lodged a police report on Dec 2.

To ensure that the interest and safety of the people in the area are safeguarded? Yeah right! Why then, in the first place, the report was classified under the Official Secrets Act (OSA)? Is it also to ensure that the interest and safety of the people in the area are safeguarded??
