AirAsia X CEO’s Utusan comments raise troubling responses

COMMENT, May 18 — In the mainstream media, AirAsia X chief executive Azran Osman Rani is being vilified for expressing disgust at Utusan Malaysia’s blatant racism against the Chinese community in the aftermath of Election 2013.
But Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s declaration that Malaysians unhappy with the election results can leave the country is being explained as a “personal opinion” and not the government’ stance.
Why the double standards?
And labelling Azran as anti-Malay is the unkindest cut as he only criticised Utusan Malaysia for its racist stance; he never attacked Malays. If anything, he should be lauded for his stand against racism.
Thus far, all mainstream media can do is trot out either discredited politicians and mosquitoes to agitate for action against Azran — ranging from Wanita Umno leader Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil to former Penang PKR Wanita chief Aminah Abdullah, saying in a text message that Azran’s act was akin to “waging war” against his own people.
Really? Why can’t Azran post “I am Malaysian. I am anti-racism. I am disgusted by Utusan’s editorial stance” in his Facebook and Twitter account without being slammed for it.
AirAsia X chairman Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz had to insist that Azran’s comment was made in his personal capacity after being twigged about it by her wing successor Shahrizat.
“No one has the right to deny others like Azran to state their views, albeit personal ones, in the social media on any issue,” Rafidah had said.
Didn’t Shahrizat say the same thing last year over her family’s cattle farm project having nothing to do her with her political career?
“It is a personal thing. They mentioned Shahrizat when I had nothing to do with it. I want to clear my name and my family’s name,” she said when testifying in her defamation suit against PKR politicians.
The thing is, Azran is not the minority. Most Malaysians will not accept or tolerate the blatant racism of Utusan Malaysia that appeared on May 7.
The mainstream media should instead focus on the racism that seems to prevail in Malaysia, rather than pick on a Malaysian who has stood up against such racism.
We need to tell the mainstream media and politicians like Ahmad Zahid that there can be a difference of opinion in Malaysia that should not result in vilification or asking people to quit or leave the country because they are not with you.
Utusan Malaysia, Ahmad Zahid and their supporters are not the Malaysia that we are now or aspire to be, especially under the 1 Malaysia concept.
Their responses are troubling and if it is the dominant notion, then we have become a nightmare of the Malaysian dream.

^ Arrogant?

Arrogant is accusing and blaming a minority of your problems which you helped to cause.

Arrogant is proclaiming yourself race champion and 'melatah' when others laugh at your self righteousness

Kudos to Azran!

How many people read our commnents (pro/cons) here.
TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING:

1. AirAsiaX has a lots of debt; 3+ times its capital. The loans came from local banks and may be from Bank Rakyat. If it closes today, Azran and the shareholders do not lose so much but the banks, Bank Rakyat

2. What's so racialist about the headline "Apa Lagi China Mahu". Just answer or make some theory which is normal human hierarchy of needs, the Chinese want control just like Penang and Singapore. Face it! What's wrong with stating the intention, the strategic Intent (SI).

3. Did Azran read the article under the heading "Apa lagi.." I doubt so as one joined friends at pubs , they reached a certain standard and won't read Malay paper.

4. There are many others who have degrees but Azran got the jobs because of people whom he knows. This indiactes he has good IQ, socially.

5. What is so good or right for a person holding position , a subsidiary of Air Asia, to make unnecessary comments, in his facebook and tweter, no wisdom. He did not even read the whole context of the article. DO CEOS with wisdom want to put their own interpretation and feel of bitterness in facebook and tweeter.

6. Why he has to make a statement that he will not advertise in Utusan. Is he a real CEO or a hijacked one? Tony's friend anyway

7. Is he a Malaysian.? Yes Chinese, Malay, Indian, bumiputeras of Sabah and Sarawak and whomever qualified and given citizenship are Malaysian. What is so good and so "right" to identify yourself as Malaysian when you are actually Chinese or Malay. Ask yourself, do you cheat yourself if you utter I am a Malaysian, not Chinese or Malay.

8. We can be a truly Malaysian if all of us Recognise Races Respect Religiously every race culture and values. It is certainly you at your best if you subscribe to the facts that you recognise your friend's race and respect(it values) religiously.

9. You know now there is nothing to shout about or give big thumb up for Azran AirAsiaX comments. If he is wise as a CEO he shouln't have made post his thoughts (unwise one) in facebook and tweeter.

10. It is also no good to boycott AirAsiaX. The Company is not doing well , gearing ratio is high, Azran does not have good experiences either but selection by persons who know him...that is it. The airline is not busy so Azran has time for facebook and tweeter.

11. If the company is stopped -- it has nothing to pay the banks. Poor rakyat monies at Bank Rakyat is gone!

Cheap or people air line like PEOPLE EXPRESS led by Fred Larenzo (more or less), HARVARD graduate, failed due to the actual business structure. By the same token, if you close the account today, AirAsiaX is a hampas (-ve in every respect) and AirAsia is quite lucky as maybe they have paid the loans using IPO moneis, else banks suffered but owners laughed with the gains they made by selling the shares/papers created.

Finally, What is so right to support or thumbs up Azran's statements? Do you think a business CEO with wisdom could have made such comments.

Don't boycott AirAsiaX, fly if you wish and rationalise the CEO position before IPO.

Cheers!

Ahmad K Yusup, Thanks for the "balanced" view. No doubt none of us can deny our "roots" so to speak, I think we should identify ourselves as Malaysians first. What do Malaysians want? I believe every right-thinking Malaysian who love the country wants a good government.

The rakyat have had enough of corruption and abuse of power by those in authority. Enough of wastage of public funds! Who are the losers in the end? The rakyat!

Interestingly, in 2011, Nor Yackop warned class war was Putrajaya’s next challenge. Within the Malay race, there is already a great economic disparity - the ruling elite and the ordinary Malays.

Now we know the GE13 result is not just due to a class war but also an urban-rural divide. But of course, Mahathir blamed BN's poor performance on greedy Malays and ungrateful Chinese. Smart old man!!
