Teoh’s family wants meeting with PM

ALOR GAJAH: The family of the late Teoh Beng Hock is seeking an audience with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to ask him for a more extensive investigation into the political aide’s death.

They said they were initially heartened by Najib’s announcement on Wednesday that a Royal Commission of Inquiry would be established to look into the interrogation methods used by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), while an inquest would be formed to determine the cause of death.

On Thursday however, they expressed their disappointment and rejected the move as being “neither here nor there” with regards to finding out the truth behind the 30-year-old political aide’s death.

Teoh’s youngest sister Teoh Lee Lan, 29, who spoke for the family, said they had expected the establishment of a single Royal Commission to investigate the incident in its entirety.

“We were elated when we first got the news but then later felt disappointed when it became clear that the Royal Commission would only investigate MACC’s procedures while the inquest would be carried out to probe my brother’s death.

“This is not what the family wanted as we had made our request known to several ministers, including Najib’s political secretary (Dr Oh Ei Sun), when they visited us last week,” she said at the family home in Tamas Seri Kelemak here Thursday.

She described the separate probes as being “neither here nor there,” while the inquest into Teoh’s death would be not as a thorough as one carried out by a commission made up of an independent panel.

“We hope the Prime Minister will not wait until the findings of the probes are completed before seeing us.

“If he is unable to visit us before that, then we are willing to see him personally in Putrajaya and ask him to change his decision and form a single commission instead,” she added.

Teoh was found dead on the fifth floor of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam last Thursday after giving his statement to the Selangor MACC which had been investigating allegations that certain state assemblymen had misused constituency funds.

Teoh, Selangor executive councillor Ean Yong Hian Wah’s political secretary, was not a suspect but had been questioned as a witness.

I read somewhere that this fellow Dr Oh Ei Sun was a very smart guy, high IQ and knew how to speak a few languages. Hmm....so, where went wrong? I'm sure he must have conveyed the correct message from the family to his boss.
