Three charged with Sukma rape
Three
teenage handball athletes were charged today with the rape of a female
officer at the 16th Malaysia Games (Sukma) Village in Universiti Putra
Malaysia, Serdang last Wednesday.
The three - Adib Adha Ismail, 18, Megat Farzeril Faiz Megat Razali,
19, and Mohammad Shaizzad Md Shafie, 19, - claimed trial to committing
the offence against the 20-year-old victim who was a chaperone at the
sports village.
The three were charged separately at three different Sessions courts.
Adib, Megat Farzeril Faiz and Mohammad Shaizzad were alleged to have
raped their victim in Room 128, Block Enggang Kolej Kedua at Universiti
Putra Malaysia in Serdang, between 4am and 4.10am on July 4.
The three were charged before judges Yasmin Abdul Razak, Abu Bakar Mamat and Rozina Ayub, respectively.
The judges granted each accused bail of RM10,000 with one surety and
ordered them not to harass the victim or the witness, who also happens
to be the victim's friend.
They were also ordered to report to the nearest police station once a month.
Deputy public prosecutor Tan Gin Han who led the prosecution in all
three cases applied to transfer the cases of Megat Farzeril Faiz and
Mohammad Shaizzad to judge Yasmin's court to allow him to apply for the
cases to be jointly tried with Adib's.
His application was allowed.
The matter will be mentioned on Aug 20.
Counsel Stephanie Wong represented Adib, while counsel Datuk Suraj Singh appeared for Megat Farzeril Faiz and Mohammad Shaizzad.
Counsel Ranjit Singh and Brian Ho held a watching brief for the victim. - July 11, 2013.
