Unifi services are expected to begin by the end of the year in Kelantan following work to upgrade transmitters in Kota Baharu, said Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Jailani Johari during the question-and-answer session at the Dewan Rakyat today.

He said that extension of the fibre optic Internet service has entered the next phase, with core infrastructure ready in several locations within the state.

"Unifi services in Kelantan are implemented in phases by Telekom Malaysia under the High Speed Broadband programme. When the transmitters are upgraded, it will allow Unifi services to operate in the state," he said in reply to a question from Ahmad Baihaki Atiqullah (PAS-Kubang Kerian).

Jailani commented further that fixed line broadband (Streamyx) is currently available in most areas in Kelantan with speeds of 4MB per second and 8MB per second, depending on the client's location. - Bernama, July 9, 2013.
