Much has been blogged and commented on the takeover of IJN. It drew a lot of 'opposition' right from the first day the Gov't gave green light to IJN privatisation (Source: Malaysiakini). The next day, the IJN specialists issued a statement saying that they would prefer the institute to stay in its present form, which is directly funded by the government. They added that the medical personnel were not at all involved in the negotiations for the proposed takeover. Also, on that same day, the Cabinet hit pause button on IJN sale (Source: Malaysiakini). Read 'pause'. It means 'postpone'. So, the sale is temporarily stopped. Two days ago, Malaysiakini reported two unions had lauded the government’s move to defer the privatisation plan of the National Heart Institute (IJN), Bernama reported today but the Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) also wants the government to scrap altogether the idea of allowing conglomerate Sime Darby Bhd to buy a 51 per cent stake in the country's premier heart institute.
As the saying goes, "The majority is not always right." Unfortunately, in this case, the majority is the rakyat and always right. Thus, the IJN must carry on to give its service to the majority rakyat.
