Najib and Muhyiddin to stay with locals during road trip
TEMERLOH: The Prime Minister and his deputy will spend two days with the local people at each kampung or Felda settlement they visit during their nationwide road trip from next month.
Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will kick off their meet-the-people tour in Sarawak, where a state election is expected before June.
Programme coordinator Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said the Government had planned the tour over the past two months and felt it was time to announce it to the public.
“This shows the Barisan Nasional is walking the talk (in touching base with the people),” he said outside the nomination centre for the Kerdau by-election here yester-day.
Hishammuddin, who is Home Minister and an Umno vice-president, said under the programme Najib and Muhyiddin would be in two different states each month.
“At each place the two leaders visit, they will stay with the people for at least two days.
“Whether it is in a Felda scheme or a kampung, the PM and DPM will be staying there to connect with the rakyat,” Hishammuddin said.
The first round of the nationwide tour is expected to be completed in September, after which the next round will begin until the next general election is held.
Hishammuddin refuted suggestions that the programme is a Barisan “general election roadshow.”
He added: “The date for the next general election has not even been decided.”
