PM, do you deserve our support?

From Malaysiakini:
Embattled Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi appealed for the nation's support in a Merdeka day message today, in the face of economic woes and opposition plans to topple the government within weeks...This nation belongs to all of us. Whether we rise or fall depends on all of us," he said.

Mr. PM, you still don't get it! You got a major mandate from the people in 2004. Four years have gone by and you're still asking for support?!

John Maxwell, a leadership guru, has this to say, 'Organizations rise and fall on the merit of their leadership - at every level.'

Clearly, Pak Lah, you have lost the merit of your leadership. Why are you still calling for support? Prove to us, first of all, that you are the PM for all Malaysians. NO MORE RHETORIC, PLEASE!

Merdeka 51 Celebration: Appreciate Umno's struggle

I was a-googling for 'merdeka 51 celebration' and found the following Bernama news:
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- The musical 'Ibu Zain' will be staged nationwide if there are requests, including in Permatang Pauh to give Malaysians an opportunity to appreciate Umno's struggle to gain independence for the country.

Question is 'Why only Umno?'

Why Permatang Pauh (PP) in particular? Is PP part of the nation being questioned here?

Umno is so sick. It is suffering from a disease called egoism. Umno does not equal to Malaysia! ABU

MCA & MIC
have surely been UNDER appreciated for at least more than 51 years. Guess who is the patron of the musical? She's none other than the 'first-lady-in-waiting-linked-to-Altantuya'.

'Time for M'sia to join the world'

"It is time for Malaysia to truly join the world now. For it to join the developed world, the Malaysian government and people should engage more with the world," said John Naisbitt, an American author and public speaker in futures studies at the Futurist Forum 2008 entitled "Mindset: A framework to anticipate the future." (Source: The Sun on Wed, Aug 27, 2008)

He also touched on the justice system that had to be more trustworthy and the Malaysia media that had to be freed up. (While the former is still being restored, the latter is being retributed for its 'sins' with Malaysia Today being the latest 'victim'. By the way it is still accessible though blocked!)

Naisbitt also said the Internal Security Act, a legislation inherited by Malaysia from Britain, "after 50 years", should be retired. (WOAH! This man ought to be adviser to the PM of Malaysia!). He opined that the Malaysian education system has to be made the number one economic priority.

Mobility Number Portability Starts Tomorrow In Klang Valley

From Bernama:
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 (Bernama) -- Pre-paid mobile phone users may change their mobile phone service providers, if they wish, and still keep their mobile phone numbers from tomorrow, Friday Aug 29.

For the time being, this service - Mobility Number Portability (MNP) - will be available in the Klang Valley on a limited basis, said Minister of Energy, Water and Communications, Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor in a statement.

He said in two weeks' time, post-paid users will also be able to enjoy the service.

The nationwide launch of the service will be in October, he said.

He said MNP takes away the inconvenience associated with switching service providers and consumers will no longer need to wory about losing their contacts when changing service providers.

He said service providers are allowed to charge up to RM25 each time a subscriber changes his/her service provider.

This will give mobile users choice and freedom to choose their service providers without the inconvenience of having to change their numbers, he said.

Those who wish to sign up for the service are advised to contact any of the mobile phone service providers -- Celcom, Maxis, DiGi and U-Mobile, he said, adding that each of them will have five service centres all over the Klang Valley to entertain MNP requests.

He said initially, only individual account holders will be able to change their service providers, while business accounts may do so after the nationwide launch in October.

He said until the nationwide launch, each service provider will only be able to accept 100 requests per day.

However, additional requests will still be accepted but placed in queue for the following day, he said.

He advised pre-paid users to finish their pre-paid balances before they change their service providers as any remaining balances will not be refunded.

Mobile phone users are advised not to rush into porting but should first study the various packages being offered before choosing the new service provider of their choice, he said.

hmmm...should i change from maxis to digi?

ABUs on the wall!

Two weeks ago, I first saw a big ABU written on the wall along a road connecting to the New Pantai Expressway (NPE).

Then, I saw two more ABUs and the words 'Asal Bukan Umno'.

'AHA...now, I know what ABU stands for. Interesting.' I thought to myself.

Today, I saw the biggest ABU when I was walking on the street along the Klang river.

ABU was on the wall of a building opposite of 'Majlis Peguam' aka Bar Council.

No flash floods for us

The Star Online reported flash floods in various parts of KL last night.

We left PJ after 7 PM.

Instead of using Federal Highway though it is the shortest way from PJ to Cheras, we use the Old Klang Road way on some weekdays. Yesterday was no exception.

We reached Pantai Cheras Hospital at almost 8 PM.

Janson wasn't feeling well. He had a cold, nose blocked, cough. Thank God his body temperature was normal.

Thank God that we reached home safely after the visit to the doctor.

Najib 'scraps' Indians. Razaleigh 'scraps' PM and DPM

Aug 19, 08 10:48am, Najib, trying to woo the Indian voters in Permatang Pauh - numbering some 3,500 voters - said the government has agreed to approve scrap metal collector's licence for them.
(Source: Malaysiakini - Najib wants Indians, Chinese to back BN)

What an insult to the Indians!

Today, Razaleigh said, "What scraps of credibility the prime minister and his deputy had left after March 8 are gone." (Source: Malaysiakini - Umno leaders call on PM to quit)

Brilliant, Razaleigh! A royal prince that he is. Did he say 'scraps' accidentally or intentionally? I think both! Accidentally 'cos he happened to say without realizing it. Intentionally 'cos that was exactly what he wanted to say!

THE RAKYAT HAS WON! (www.malaysiakini.com)

From Malaysiakini: Anwar gets BIGGER majority. 9.50pm: Official EC tally - Anwar got 31,195 votes, Arif Shah, 15,524, Hanafi, 92. Anwar won with a majority of 15,671.

Thank you, people of Permatang Pauh for sending Anwar Ibrahim to Parlimen!

After that, God willing, to Putrajaya!

The battle has just begun. We must stand united. Tian Chua, a PKR party leader, said that the overwhelming victory showed that "the prime minister's racial politics is bankrupt".

Permatang Pauh, who will win? BN

'Permatang Pauh, siapa menang?' I asked the Malay guard at my wife's working place.

He replied confidently, 'BN.'

As much as I disliked to hear the word 'BN', I asked, 'Kenapa?'

He gave two reasons - BN dirty trick and the 3-corner fight.

For Permatang Pauh

Pray like this: 'Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. Let your kingdom come. Let your will be done, as in heaven, so on earth. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors. Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen.'
(Mat 6:9-13)

Please go home and pray for this election

Yes, Anwar said that after ending his ceramah at Guar Perahu. (Read here at * SUSAN LOONE's blog *)

Note that he did not ask to pray for his victory in the by-election.

So, people of Malaysia, pray for the Permatang Pauh by-election.

Pray for peace to prevail. Pray for truth to triumph.

Most of all, pray for justice to be swift.

Regardless of our different faiths - Muslim, Buddhist, Christian or Hindu, if our heart is honest, the God, the Creator, will hear the prayers of His creation.

Najib, we are not kids

He said, 'No more fuel rebates if you don't appreciate them.'

Like a parent saying to a kid, 'No more toys for you if you don't appreciate this toy.'

Too bad. We, the rakyat, are not kiddos.

Why AH? Regret rebating to the rakyat?
You think the rakyat doesn't deserve the rebate? We pay road tax too, you know. Don't threaten the rakyat like that LAH.

Just withdraw the rebates after you make good on your promise to dispense them until next year. The rakyat is not threatened!

do women enjoy sodomy

No, I don't have the answer in my blog but those were the keywords that a visitor googled for and Take Note Take Heart: Sex education: No sodomy! came out first!

Man, there's nothing to be proud of but since we're on this 'sodomy' topic, let me quote from Wikipedia: Sodomy (IPA: /ˈsɒdəmi/) is a term used today predominantly in law (derived from traditional Christian usage) to describe the act of anal intercourse, oral intercourse, as well as bestiality. When used in a religious context, it has a negative connotation.

Yes, there's an account in the Bible about Sodom and the men of Sodom in sexual depravity. Sodom is subsequently destroyed by a rain of sulfur and fire. From this biblical narrative the word 'Sodomy' is derived.

Don't play play! Malaysia is already famous for 'sodomy'.

Mother of six on mother of all by-elections (www.malaysiakini.com)

For the first time, Wan Azizah, a picture of calm, spoke up.

From Malaysiakini:
"Fed up with the disparaging personal attacks on her husband, PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who has so far kept a dignified silence, slammed Barisan Nasional and Umno campaigners for waging an argot war on Anwar Ibrahim."
Nothing new for Umno-led BN to launch a character assassination on Anwar. They said sodomy had nothing to do with the by-election yet Saiful's swearing on the Quran was screened in front of Umno Permatang Pauh centre. (Click here for story from * SUSAN Loone's blog *)

Umno-led BN campaigners will go down in the an(n)als of Malaysia as the 'dirtiest' campaigners. I wonder who their mothers are or were. Didn't their mothers educate them well? KURANG AJAR!

Janson can flip!

Today, as soon as we reached home after work, my wife put Janson on the mattress in the living room. Then, we walked away to our bedroom.

'There! He can flip already!' my mom exclaimed. I turned back. YEAH. He was indeed lying on his stomach, chest up!

Actually, he started flipping earlier this month. Each time he flipped, he struggled with his left hand pressed by his own body weight. Poor thing. After a while, he would get frustrated and whimper.

This time, on his own, he could slowly edge his left hand out while exerting more strength on his right hand to lift his upper body up. No crying!

Praise God! We were so happy to see this development. Janson, the new flip baby.

Govt heeds Anwar's advice. New fuel price!

SEE! Govt has no choice but to agree with Anwar's populist approach. Read my previous post here.

According to Bernama, petrol price will decrease at least by 30 sen come Sept 1.

Who says petrol price can't come down?

WUAHAHA

Come on, Pak Lah . CHANGE YOUR LIFESTYLE! Get your minions to follow suit. Prove to the rakyat that you are sincere, that you are the PM for ALL Malaysians.

Then, you can afford to bring down the petrol price even MORE! MORE than the 50-sen proposal promised by Anwar. Then, you will get MORE support from the rakyat! WUAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Gerakan, the surviving movement - www.malaysiakini.com

AHAHA...Gerakan ground is moving, shifting but it's still surviving! After the resignation of a party stalwart, Koh said: We'll miss Toh but we'll survive. Really?

HUHUHU...so sad just to survive-lah. Don't you know, Koh, that it is the 'survival of the fittest'? BN is still in the Stone Age. Malaysians in unison had spoken clearly through the ballot boxes in the last general election - we want change! According to Malaysiakini, Toh resigned barely 24 hours after he visited the PKR election operation centre to show his open support for the opposition party's candidate Anwar Ibrahim.

Oh yeah, did you know that Jeff Ooi, the blogger-turned-MP, was once a Gerakan member? Singapore PM Lee Hsien Loong talked about him here in his National Day Rally Speech 2008.

Watch the vid
. It reminds me of the predicament that Gerakan is in now. 8=) If Koh is wise, he had better listen to the ground. The tree top is pretty precarious.

Third visit to paediatrician @ UKMSC

Today, Janson got two jabs: DPT-Hib and OPV according to the immunization schedule.

This time, he cried a bit unlike his first visit. Praise God. He was strong.

His vital stats thus far:
Weight - 8.4 kg
Height - 67 cm
Circumference (head) - 42 cm

Prayer of thanksgiving:
Father, we thank You for healthy baby Janson.
Thank You for Your grace and mercy.
In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

Who else will migrate?

Not too long ago, Mahathir confessed that he would migrate...

Besides Dr M, there is someone else. Handpicked by Dr M when he was the PM, she was the FIRST CHINESE WOMAN who became the deputy finance minister...

Such betrayal.

Chinese woman, are you going to stay on and fight for the Chinese? Sorry, I forgot. That's not important. Chinese still fight against each other until today. So, no point. There is no such thing as a Chinese cause in Malaysia. Not anymore.

So, you had better leave Malaysia for your children's education sake. By the way, why should you go Down Under? Not proud to be a Chinese? For context, please read Sun2Surf here (last para).

Infant Massage @ Sunway Hotel

Yesterday, we were at Sunway Hotel for a Johnson's Baby Touch Infant Massage seminar.

The talk by this doctor from SJMC was boring though I got to know some stuff about infant massage. After the talk, we proceeded to table no. 9 for the demo session. The trainer did quite well to show how to massage an infant.

Before the seminar, we did a foot-and-hand painting. Nothing new but fun for us as first-time parents.

So, what are the benefits of massage?
You may find more info from the International Association of Infant Massage website. Click here.

For more photos and view the video of the demo session, check out my wife's blog. Go here.

POLICE REPORT OUT!!! (www.malaysiakini.com)

At 5:45 PM, Malaysiakini reported:
PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has finally received a copy of the police report made by his accuser, almost two months after the sodomy complaint was lodged.

Besides that, Anwar said that he had seen the first medical report by Hospital Pusrawi and was privy to the second report by Hospital Kuala Lumpur. Conclusion: No case against him. Anwar also slammed the “dirty” campaign mounted by his rival BN in the run-up to the by-election with shouts of 'sodomy' or 'liwat'.

Let me tell you, many Malays that I come in contact with have lost hope in Umno-led BN.

Just yesterday, I chatted with my wife's colleague, a Malay lady. We touched a bit on politics. When I told her about the shouts of 'liwat' by BN, she immediately responded, 'Oi, jahatnya...'

Saiful's swearing un-Islamic but akin to Christianity? - www.malaysiakini.com

From Malaysiakini:
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang regarded Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan's act of swearing on the Quran as an act of
MCPX
kebodohan
(stupidity) which went against the teachings of Islam.
"We don't have this practice in Islam. It is the Christians who swear on the bible," said Abdul Hadi during a press conference at the sidelines of the 54th PAS muktamar in Ipoh today.

HAHA. Ok. Firstly, I am glad that PAS has finally 'cleared the air' over Saiful's swearing act. Basically, it is STUPID and UN-Islamic.

Secondly, I am surprised by his comment that it is the Christians who swear on the bible. I don't blame him for his wrong worldview on Christianity. Rather, I blame 'Hollywood' movies and TV that show witnesses in court swearing on the bible to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth. For a very long time, the White Americans have been wrongly perceived as Christians. Does Hadi know that there are the Church of Satan and Satanists in America?

A Christian can be defined as a believer whose faith is in Jesus Christ, God's one and only Son. Thus, he only obeys the words of Jesus.

So, let me share with you, Mr. Hadi, the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:33-37:
"Again you have heard that it was said to your ancestors, 'Do not take a false oath, but make good to the Lord all that you vow.'
But I say to you, do not swear at all; not by heaven, for it is God's throne;
nor by the earth, for it is his footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.
Do not swear by your head, for you cannot make a single hair white or black.
Let your 'Yes' mean 'Yes,' and your 'No' mean 'No.' Anything more is from the evil one.

LIVE coverage on Permatang Pauh - www.malaysiakini.com

Malaysiakini will cover live the nomination day of the Permatang Pauh by-election beginning 7.30am today.

MCPX

7.25am People start arriving at Maktab Penguruan Tuanku Bainun, the nomination centre. Heavy police presence sighted in and around the centre.

7.37am Police helicopter hovering above. Road blocks, traffic jam. Supporters from both camps, carrying banners and flags, start to swell.

7.45am BN and Pakatan supporters, estimated at 5,000, present. Pakatan crowd outnumber BN's. Some PKR people spotted with Anwar's masks. 'Harapan Baru untuk Malaysia' placards seen all over the Pakatan group.

7.54am Supporters from the two camps enter via different routes. Nomination centre is located just outside the Butterworth-Kulim expressway. Orderly entrance seen at this stage, crowd seem well behaved.

Why in the world is there such a heavy police presence? Even a police helicopter is hovering above? This is only the nomination day! What if the polling day? Will they send in the tanks?

For latest updates, check out LIVE here at Malaysiakini.

Cheap Chap Fun (Economy Rice) Lunch

Heheh...my brother blogger Dan'Lion talked about it on June 4, 2008. The old price was RM2.80.

Nevertheless, 'chap fun' is still below RM4 (Rm3.50 or RM3) at 'HIN KEE MIXED RICE' stall at Restaurant Simon's Delight at Jalan 20/1, Paramount Garden, PJ.

My colleague Danny said that even in Seremban, one could never find 'chap fun' with that price. He especially likes the 'yong tow foo' there.

Today, my lunch cost me RM3 for a plate of rice with an egg, brinjal, long beans plus 'petai'! Woohoo!

Awwww Arif...(www.malaysiakini.com)

Arif said, 'Who can defeat Anwar? I can'.

This 'jolly good fellow' is the 'underdog' picked by BN to contest against Anwar at the by-election.
Least expected to be selected, he was moved to tears....

Malaysiakini said of Arif:
He broke into tears hearing the announcement, and his supporters were up on their feet applauding him. It is not BN's norm to select a by-election candidate who is already holding office- in a state assembly or Parliament.

Already he had 'sniffed' something out of Anwar. He said that instead of contesting in Permatang Pauh, Anwar should be contesting in Kuala Lumpur since the PKR leader was now Klang Valley based. Why ah? 'Underdog' is already jittery before the battle begins?

*sniff sniff*

(Pic from Malaysiakini)

Can the 'underdog' beat the 'blackie'?

Father's First: Sound of Music

Lately, feeding Janson is quite a chore though it is time for milk.

Admittedly, I don't get to feed him often. During the day, 'Ah-Ma' and nanny will see to him. At night, 'Mah-mah' and MOMMY will attend to his needs.

Last night, Janson was 'scheduled' to drink at 9 o'clock. I carried him while 'Mah-mah' was getting ready his milk. He was getting restless. I wanted to pacify him. Spontaneously, I started singing, 'Doe, a deer, a female deer...' until his milk came.

I looped the song, 'Doe, a deer...so do la fa mi do re...do mi mi mi so so...when you know the notes to sing, you can sing most anything!'
while 'Mah-mah' was feeding him.

Slowly, he was drifting to dreamland. I stopped singing as soon as he had finished drinking his milk. Praise God!

Shafee strikes back! Raja Petra ordered to reveal source and reader IDs

After three online articles written against him on Malaysia Today, Shafee finally filed a defamation suit against Raja Petra, The Star Online reported.

Needless to say, Shafee denied all allegations made against him that he was the mastermind behind 'Sodomy II' of AI.

The Star Online says:
Injunctions were also granted to restrain him or his agents from further publishing the said articles or any other articles, journals, letters, comments, posts and statements that are defamatory of Shafee on the web portal or any third party websites.
Let's see...firstly, I am not Raja Petra's agent. So, I am not going to publish the said three online articles here in my blog but you may still find them 1. here, 2. here and 3. here. All the best!

Muhyiddin-Anwar, Mukhriz-Anwar...Everybody loves Anwar!

Everyone is talking about Anwar these days!

If Anwar is not a threat, why bother? Muhyiddin told Singaporean businessmen not to believe Anwar's claims of taking over the present government. (Read here in Bernama.com)

Mukhriz's media statement counter attacked Al Gore's attacks when the latter slammed Malaysia for Anwar's trial. I first read about it at rocky's bru. Mukhriz went on further to say that Anwar Ibrahim is like a chameleon, changing colours whenever it suits him.

I absolutely agree.

Anwar is indeed like a clever chameleon unlike all BN blokes who are like dead logs in denial mode. Anwar changes according to the needs of the nation, the rakyat. Isn't that a good thing?

There's always one...

Hehe...well, I think it's not so funny if you encounter one in real life as Jed would tell you here (no, she has decided not to)
Just today, I found out about a 'Darth Vader' at work - my colleague said he was being treated like a dog by him.

I've got mail from Anwar Ibrahim

Yesterday morning, my colleague, surprised that she got mail from Anwar Ibrahim, came to my place and told me about it. I was a little taken aback too.

Then she added, 'From: Office of Anwar Ibrahim'.

'Ok, it must have come from an email broadcast or campaign done by AI's party,' I thought to myself.

A brilliant idea but does that amount to spamming?

Below is the content of the email she forwarded to me for your reference:

Subject: PRESS STATEMENT - Pakatan Rakyat will secure fundamental liberties

Anwar Ibrahim The Voice of Democracy in Malaysia

Watch press conference on YouTube08 AUGUST 2008, PETALING JAYA, MALAYSIA

[read online] [watch video]

I promise that under a Pakatan Rakyat government Malaysians will never again be subjected to such gross abuse of executive power as we are again witnessing today. Arbitrary arrest and detention, frivolous investigation and malicious prosecutions shall be a thing of the past. Police officers and prosecutors who launch conspiracies to defame and humiliate the innocent will be severely punished. The use of police powers as well the office of the Attorney General to persecute political opponents will be criminalized so as to ensure a healthy and vibrant democracy where dissent is not only tolerated but nurtured.

In this regard every Malaysian’s fundamental liberties will be treated as sacrosanct and safeguarded by a truly independent judiciary guided by principles of utmost integrity and an adherence to the spirit of the federal constitution.

The politically motivated trial launched against me will, Insha’Allah, be the last of its kind. No Malaysian will suffer from this cruel injustice ever again.

Yesterday’s events confirm my innocence from the charges that recently surfaced. The medical report and statutory declaration by Dr. Osman Abdul Hamid of the Pusrawi Hospital that surfaced on Thursday shatter lingering doubts as to whether the alleged act ever took place. Dr. Osman’s statement also confirms what we have already stated regarding deplorable actions by the police to fabricate evidence in a manner identical to the manipulation of my case in 1998. Anything short of a thorough investigation into the mishandling of this investigation would further tarnish the credibility of the police.

The doctor’s personal safety is a matter of deep concern to us. Material witnesses in high-profile cases in Malaysia have gone missing in the past such as the PI Balasubramanian. I applaud those brave individuals who have demonstrated their commitment to freedom and justice by coming forward with important evidence, and call upon the authorities to ensure their protection.

Yesterday in court we learned that the prosecution’s case has, in a manner similar to the botched trials of 1998, shape-shifted from a charge of assault to one of a consensual act. The conspiracy launched against me in the final week of June 2008 is falling apart. There is a hasty attempt by some to patch up glaring holes in the complainant’s testimony. This will certainly fail given the preponderance of evidence confirming my innocence.

The Prime Minister has actively involved himself in this matter in an attempt to derail the process of transformational change in Malaysia and stave off his own political demise. But in soiling his hands with this sordid matter he has deepened the crisis within his own administration. His most ardent supporters among the Malays have also expressed their disgust with the matter. Furthermore Prime Minister Badawi now faces investigation by the Anti Corruption Agency for his involvement in corruption and money politics.

The shadow of corruption and mismanagement of the economy darkens the legacy of his Premiership. Prime Minister Badawi has still offered no convincing explanation over the huge profits reaped by his family in the Oil For Food scandal at the expense of dying Iraqis.

I advise those around him to leave the sinking ship of his leadership while there is still a chance to do so.

Pakatan Rakyat’s reform agenda is firmly back on track and the New Dawn for Malaysia is well within reach. We will mount a unified campaign to win in Permatang Pauh with a solid majority encompassing that constituency’s diverse population. I look forward to entering Parliament on August 27th with the support of my friends in the coalition.

ANWAR IBRAHIM

8hb OGOS 2008, PETALING JAYA, MALAYSIA

Another 'tour while work' for PAC? - malaysiakini.com

"Lawatan sambil bekerja" is the more popular phrase in BM.

Yes, is PAC going to seriously look into the cracks at MRR2 and dig deeper into the previous cost of repair that mysteriously mushroomed from RM40 million to RM70 million?

I had traveled on MRR2 numerous times after the repair work was done. Frankly, each time I plied the road or 'highway', I never felt secure and feared that it would collapse anytime!

Before this, PAC also had a "lawatan sambil bekerja" to the controversial 'Pork Klang Free Zone' that resulted in a government bailout of RM4.6 billion.

Is this "lawatan sambil bekerja" going to see another 'tug-of-war' between the works ministry and the public works department? We shall see!

Following report by Malaysiakini:
PAC to visit MRR2 site tomorrow
Fauwaz Abdul Aziz | Aug 11, 08 4:06pm

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will visit the
MCPX
defective Middle Ring Road II
(MRR2) flyover in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow, one week after clumps of concrete and carbon fibre panels fell from one of the busy highway's pillars.

pac mrr2 highway meeting pc 110808 01PAC chairperson Azmi Khalid said the committee members wanted to see for themselves the extent of the damage caused by the cracked pillar.

They also wanted to be briefed by the Public Works Department, or JKR, on the condition of the construct and the remedial works commenced, he added.

Azmi further said that former Works Minister S Samy Vellu will not be called by the PAC to answer for the current problems besetting the MRR2 as he was no longer in government.

"Samy Vellu is no more a minister. During his tenure, he was responsible overall, but today, he is no longer (in the cabinet) and it is the JKR that continues to hold responsibility (over the matter)," he told a press conference after holding a PAC meeting in Parliament.

"We will call JKR and if necessary, the minister (Mohd Zin Mohamed). I believe it would be more accurate to call JKR," he added.

cracks reapppear on mrr2 middle ring road 2 flyover highway 040808The flyover and the road beneath were closed from 10.30am to 5pm two Sundays ago - causing a traffic snarl several kilometers long - after three of the 18 carbon fibre panels on pillar 28 and several clumps of concrete fell onto the road.

Two of the six lanes are closed and will remain so for three weeks - until a team of consultants makes a detailed study of the damage. Zin, however, gave the assurance that the structure was safe for use.

Repairs were done in February 2006 - when cracks appeared on all but two of the 33 pillars of the flyover elevated over the Kepong part of the second middle-ring road. Similar repairs were carried out in August 2004.

PAC's previous chairperson Shahrir Abdul Samad had disclosed an additional RM70 million had been spent to repair the Kepong stretch of the MRR2, which originally cost RM120 million to build.

PAC should call Azmi as witness

In an immediate reaction, opposition leader Lim Kit Siang said Azmi should step down as PAC chief as he was also the subject of the committee's investigations.

"It is not only most invidious, improper but also a clear and flagrant conflict of interest for Azmi to now preside over an investigation into the two-year RM70 million repairs...," he said in a press statement.

mrr2 elevated highway 170206 02According to Lim, the decision to award the repair contract by the cabinet, in which Azmi was a member as the then natural resources and environment minister, "raises many disturbing questions about their propriety and wisdom".

"I had raised in the previous Parliament the intense turf war between the then works minister Samy Vellu and the Public Works Department director-general, about how, the costs and who should be awarded the contract to carry out the MRR2 repairs, and how the prime minister, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, had to personally intervene to resolve the matter by convening a special meeting on a Friday on Feb 3, 2006...

"Samy Vellu won the battle against the PWD at the Feb 3 meeting but eventually lost the war. Although Samy Vellu announced after the meeting that the MRR2 repair work would be supervised by the British-based consultants Halcrow, maintaining that the costs would be RM18 million, the turf war was finally won by the PWD at a cabinet meeting two weeks later, which upheld the PWD's recommendation in awarding the repair work to German consulting firm Leonhardt Andra and Partners at a cost of RM40 million, which later mushroomed mysteriously to RM70 million!"

Lim said that Azmi should go before PAC and give a full account of why the contract for the repairs was finally awarded to LAP and explain the more-than-triple of the original repair costs.

OLD TOWN White Coffee, Dataran 32, Jalan 19/1, PJ

Had lunch at OLD TOWN, last week actually.

When my Pakistani colleague saw the price of 'nasi lemak' on the menu, he remarked, 'They increase the price!' Nevertheless, it was still the cheapest meal that I could order for lunch.

The 'nasi lemak' came. I was about to snap when suddenly the Pakistani fellow said, 'Oh my gawd, why?' Obviously, he was surprised and couldn't believe that I actually wanted a picture of food. Frankly, I still feel awkward taking pictures of food but I'm getting used to it. Hehe...

How do I rate the 'nasi lemak'? Not bad. The portion is just nice. The price is reasonable compared to other eateries of the same standard.

Ok, here are just some of my food shots.

I will flee the country if Anwar becomes PM

I was surprised to read 'Dr M will migrate if Anwar becomes PM' (The Malaysian Insider). Read the original report here in Utusan Online.

Dr M's exact words:
"If he becomes Prime Minister, I will get out of the country. Give everything to him."

Give everything to him?
Give what? You are now a citizen of Malaysia. Even Umno has rejected you. No, Umno has not rejected you. You have rejected Umno.

Why don't you just say, 'I will flee the country if Anwar becomes PM and take all my personal possessions with me...'

Lastly, before you leave
"The Country We Love" , please don't forget to say your last good-bye.

Eagles Wings

Here I am waiting
Abide in me I pray
Here I am longing for you
Hide me in your love
Bring me to my knees
May I know Jesus more and more

Come live in me
All my life take over
Come breathe in me
And I will rise on eagles wings

Controversial forum on 'conversion' halted - www.malaysiakini.com

I was sad to read about the protest against a forum organized by the Bar Council on conversion to Islam. What was supposed to be a half-day forum turned out to be a one-hour forum.

Malaysiakini says:
Shouts of “babi”, “pengkhianat” and “balik China” were heard as forum participants trickled out of the venue.

I think the taunts were really immature. Didn't the police find them seditious?

Isn't religion a matter of choice and heart? No one is against conversion of non-Malays to Islam. Only the conversion back to one's former religion that is the most difficult.

So, everyone, no matter if you are a Chinese or Indian who is of the Buddhist, Christian or Hindu faith, think twice, even thrice, before you ever decide to convert to Islam in Malaysia.

Doc's SD: 'No sodomy'. Will there be a second SD? - malaysiakini

Seems like the police badly mismanaged their interrogation on Dr Osman who is now renowned for checking Saiful's anus.

Dr Osman said, '“The seemingly constant and unending police investigation and being aware of the high-profile nature of the case has disturbed me tremendously and I become worried for my safety and that of my family."

He was to resume his duties at Pusrawi Hospital on Aug 1 - incidentally the day he signed the statutory declaration - but cannot be contacted and has gone missing.

Hmm...isn't it very obvious that the police was striking fear into an innocent third-party who just so happened to be a non-voluntary observer in the sodomy game?
(See Dr Mohd Osman's statutory declaration in full)

08.08.08 - New beginnings!

Much have been said about this date, 08.08.08. I've already blogged about it here.

For fun, I just googled for '888'. Top on the list of results was 'Online Casino & Online Poker Room - 888.com

08.08.08 will perhaps be the most memorable moment in the history of Olympic Games. The opening ceremony will start at 8 p.m.

Also, did you know that there will be 'Free Bibles available at Beijing Olympic village'?

For Christians, the number '8' signifies 'a new beginning'.

Today is Friday the 8th day of the 8th month of the year 2008. TGIF and for new beginnings!

Man, what if you struck the lottery on 08.08.08?

Can you do this? FAT CHANCE! LOL

Police not 'stupid'. Rakyat not stupid. I not stupid.

The Sun

You said that some people said that Anwar wanted to have the by-election to avoid the law.
I say: Can you tell me how that can be done? I don't get it. Maybe I'm not smart enough.

You also said Anwar should prove his innocence in a court of law rather than go around making allegations.
I say: Has your 'anointed' successor gone to a court of law to prove his innocence in relation to his alleged relationship with Altantuya?

Please give me some 'clever' answers to these two questions.

Anwar to appear in court tomorrow. Finally! - malaysiakini

breaking news from malaysiakini as at Aug 6, 08 12:12pm.
The sodomy charge preferred against Anwar is not expected to have a bearing in the by-election as only convicted persons are barred from contesting or forced to step down from being an elected representative.

The timing couldn't have been more perfect!
Will Anwar be convicted before the by-election on Aug 26?

Maybe not. Firstly, will the evidence at hand hold water? Perhaps not even semen! Secondly, police has yet to get his DNA to fabricate evidence.

WUAHAHAHA

JUSTICE FOR ALTANTUYA: Lest we forget the “government official" allegedly seen in a photograph with Altantuya

More than 1 year 1 month ago, Kim Quek a Malaysian-based commentator wrote an article here at Asia Sentinal with an interesting intro:
An unbelievable spectacle took place in the bizarre murder trial of Mongolian beauty Altantuya Shaaribuu on June 29. Karpal Singh, the lawyer for the victim’s family, attempted to ask a question about a “government official" allegedly seen in a photograph with the victim. At that point, both the prosecutor and the defense lawyer sprang to their feet in unison to block the question.
Read Kim Quek's response to Najib's two (ridiculous) reasons for declining to comment on what was testified in court.

Last Sunday, I met a friend who just came back from a seminar at PWTC. He told me, 'I shook hands with a murderer...alleged murderer.'
Najib, the ghost of Altantuya is haunting you wherever you go!

Najib supports Anwar's populist approach!

On Sunday, Najib said that Anwar's promise to fix the petrol price at RM2 was a populist approach.

According to Merrier-Webster dictionary, a populist is a believer in the rights, wisdom, or virtues of the common people.

Yes, you are right, Mr. Najib! Anwar is a firm believer in the rights, wisdom, or virtues of the rakyat while you preach to the rakyat to change their lifestyle!

You also said that fixing the petrol price at RM2 per litre was possible. Again, you are right, Mr. Najib! (If you think that I am making all these up, read here in The Star Online) ;)

Oh yes, do you know that mSTAR Online (The Malay version of The Star Online) has a poll with the question - 'Can Pakatan Rakyat reduce petrol price by 70 sen if it comes into power?'

The result? 86.2% said 'yes'
after I cast a 'yes' at about 10:30 PM today.
