The proposed 100-storey Warisan Merdeka tower has found an unlikely supporter, with Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim urging the state to take an open approach to the controversial project.
Speaking during question time at the state assembly today, Khalid (left) said Selangor is part of the federal government's Greater Kuala Lumpur re-development plan, so it only makes sense for the state to lend its support.

Khalid said there was an intense debate in Parliament on the need to develop skyscrapers, but there was a need for us to support such projects because it spurs economic growth.
Khalid noted that both he and the state secretary are part of the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu) committee on the Greater KL plan and said, "We will conduct town hall sessions with the local authorities to explain to the rakyat the plans that were studied by the federal government."

Personally, I don't see how this tower will benefit me. Can an economist tell me how it will bring benefit to me directly?! Will my income increase if indeed the building of this tower will spur economic growth?!
