PUTRAJAYA, Oct 29 (Bernama) -- Public feedback should be sought on the Warisan Merdeka project, said former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
"The government should seek public opinion on the project," he said when commenting a report that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is duplicating his mistake of building Petronas Twin Towers (KLCC).
"Was it wrong to build KLCC? If it is wrong, then this project (tower) is also wrong." Dr Mahathir said after delivering a lecture at "Biz Talk" session of Asia Pacific Young Business Conference & Trade here Friday.
Najib who defended the RM5bil project that includes a 100 storey building said it was not wasteful but would generate the economy.
Its construction would stimulate the economy as the area would become a commerce centre for bumiputera and non-bumiputera businessmen.
The prime minister said he did not direct Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) to undertake the project and that it was the decision of its management.
Tabling Budget 2011 on Oct 15, Najib who is also Finance Minister announced that Warisan Merdeka is scheduled for completion by 2020.
