Sultan has no power lah. Sultan is just a 'dummy' since Umno stripped him!

COMMENT A bizarre and comical drama is being played out in the running feud between Malaysian ruling coalition Barisan Nasional (BN) and opposition alliance Pakatan Rakyat (PR). BN is attempting to force an unwelcome top public servant down the throat of a Pakatan-controlled state government, which naturally has fiercely resisted the forced-feeding.

The scenario is rendered more ridiculous when BN, in its earnestness to overpower Pakatan, has brought in the sultan of the state to administer the swearing-in of the new recruit, though the sultan, being a constitutional monarch, has no apparent role to play in this appointment under the state constitution.

<< Blast from the past >>
Taken from a para in the article 'Mahathir vs the Malay Rulers':
The Prime Minister’s campaign continued. He silenced the Rulers over the issue of the 1987 ISA detentions; staged a hostile debate on the monarchy in the 1990 Umno general assembly after the loss of Kelantan to PAS; removed the Rulers’ immunity to prosecution following the constitutional crisis of 1992-93; stripped away their flights, outriders, and special hospital wards; and in 1994, with little opposition, finally removed the need to obtain the Rulers’ assent for State laws.
