Government's money is people's money. So, take it!

DPM: Assistance fund balance must be returned

Posted on November 19, 2011, Saturday

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has instructed schools to return any balance from the RM100 school assistance fund back to the government if the money is not claimed by parents on behalf of students.
Parents have a choice as to whether they want to accept the assistance or wish to contribute it to the school, he said.
However, parents must claim the money first before they decide to make it a contribution, said Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister.
“It’s all right if parents say they don’t need the assistance and so on. We have instructed the schools to return any balance to the ministry and it will be put back into government funds, as it is government money,” he said after the launch of Unesco Day here, yesterday.

Oh, duh. Of course, what is rightfully the rakyat's must be returned to the 'trustee' that is the government but is the government 100% trustworthy?
Why would some parents not need the aid? I wonder.
Yesterday, a customer called me and requested for her problem be resolved before she left work at 4 PM. I asked the customer why the urgency. She explained that she needed to go to her daughter's school to collect the RM100 and buy her daughter a bag using that money.
'Wah, the government so good...,' I said sarcastically.

'Yeah...and it's our money. I pay taxes,' she said matter-of-factly.
