KUALA
LUMPUR, Jan 18 — DAP’s Lim Guan Eng today demanded his political foe
Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek disclose where the latter will contest in the
next general election to prove MCA’s “winnability”.
“Will Chua Soi Lek dare to announce which seat he is contesting, then
let me go to that constituency and repeat Liow’s remarks that we are
confident of defeating Chua then see how Chua will respond?” Lim pressed
the MCA president in a statement today.
The DAP secretary-general was retorting Dr Chua’s remarks yesterday
defending his MCA deputy president, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai. Liow
previously said MCA could win unseat any DAP candidate in Bagan,
currently held by Lim.
“I consider myself a winnable candidate everywhere I go,” Dr Chua had
declared at his MCA’s annual general assembly on October 2 last year,
after being challenged by his party rival and former president Datuk
Seri Ong Tee Keat.
“DAP is not interested in playing the boastful games of MCA, when the
only one making political challenges is the MCA and not DAP,” the Bagan
incumbent said.
Lim who is also Penang chief minister, accused Dr Chua of public
deception when the medical doctor alleged that DAP and its federal
opposition partners in the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) bloc had mismanaged the
island state’s finances, resulting in budget deficits.
“Penang has no budget deficits but had recorded budget surpluses
every year for the four years we are in power, certified by the
Auditor-General Report,” Lim said, adding that his administration
remains the only state throughout the country that has been praised by
world graft watchdog Transparency International for enforcing an open
tender system to fight corruption.
