What's MCA polls without 'makan'?

For the Chinese community, all major events must be accompanied by a sumptuous meal, be it to celebrate a baby's first month or funeral and the MCA presidential campaign is no exception with candidates for top party posts crisscrossing the country from one dinner event to another - sometimes more than one a night - to touch base with the party's 2,400 delegates who will go to the polls this Sunday.
Last night, Malaysiakini caught up with former MCA president Ong Ka Ting's campaign dinner at a Chinese restaurant with some 400 supporters, mostly from Kuala Lumpur and some from even faraway Labuan, made up the crowd, on Jalan Pudu, Kuala Lumpur organised by Federal Territories MCA. Initially, only 30 tables were prepared but fifteen more were laid out later for the unanticipated swell.
Sure lah. Got free 'makan' sure will go but should this 'makan' culture be condoned? Is it not a subtle form of corruption? Greedy and selfish Chinese who only gaze at their own bellies!
