Umno Kulim-Bandar Baharu invites Zulkifli Noordin to the party
KULIM, March 7 — Kulim-Bandar Baharu Umno today invited Zulkifli Noordin (picture) to join it and serve the constituency, a day after the MP was sacked by PKR.Kulim-Bandar Baharu Umno division chief Datuk Abdul Aziz Sheikh Fadzir, who lost to Zulkifli in Election 2008, made the offer to the maverick politician.
“Seeing that YB Zul (Zulkifli) no longer trusts PKR’s direction and principles, he can use Umno as his platform to serve the people which is being done by the party now,” he said.
Abdul Aziz said Zulkifli’s sacking showed that PKR did not allow democratic practices in the party.
Zulkifli said yesterday he will continue to serve his constituency as an independent despite PKR asking him to vacate the seat.
In Election 2008, Zulkifli took 22,255 votes to beat Abdul Aziz with a majority of 5,583 votes.
To a question 'Which party is closest to your ideology?' that was posed to Zul in a recent interview with Malaysiakini, he replied, "I am not interested in political parties. I prefer Islamic-based NGOs because I know the world works like this: If you join an (opposition) political party, half of the Muslims will not be with you because they are with Umno.(It would be the same if you join Umno because half of the Muslims would be with opposition parties.) So (membership) would be a disadvantage."
