A chat with my office cleaning lady (CL) in the elevator this morning:
Me: Do you work on Saturday?
CL: No
Me: So good...
CL: 1 month I can get 3000...
Me: So good...
CL: Yeah, better than office job..
As we exited the elevator she said, 'Own business like that lah...'
I smiled but my heart sighed, 'Ya lah, better than me...'

True...True.. I agree...
Owing business is not as easy as it may seem. Competition is usually stiff, with alot of bills, outstanding accounts (owed by clients)and staffing headaches to contend with.
Though most businesses start with high optimism and expectations, the majority will fail in the first few years. Some of the reasons are poor planning, lack of knowledge and experience, and insufficient capital to sustain the initial slow period.
Of course, there is always a few who will nevertheless succeed because they have the knack, drive and determination.
Another successful group are those in the "right" profession (e.g medicine) where failure is most unusual even though they may only have rudumentary business skills.
Yes, the returns from business can be great but for most people the risk is high.

True KY.
Owning one's business is a different kind of freedom.
As for this cleaning lady, hers is a sole proprietorship. One leg kick!
I guess her 'headaches' are demanding customers and competing cleaning ladies. hehe
