Making his statement from the dock, Sirul said that he was made a victim in order to protect the police.
He read out a 15-page statement, often punctuated by tears, as he defended himself.
He also said that during the prosecution stage of the case, he saw a witness from the police lying to implicate him.
Sirul is the second accused in Altantuya's murder trial. The first accused chief inspector Azilah Hadri took the witness stand in January.
In his testimony, Azilah provided alibi on his whereabouts at the time Altantuya was killed. He also said Sirul was the last person with Altantuya on the night she was killed.
Azilah and Sirul are jointly charged with murdering Altantuya, 28, at a location between Lot 12843 and Lot 16735 in Mukim Bukit Raja, Selangor between 10am on Oct 19, 2006 and 1am the following day.

SOMEONE HAS TO PAY THE PRICE.
SIRUL IS NOT ONLY A SCAPEGOAT.
WILL HE BE THE LAMB TO THE SLAUGHTER?
