PUTRAJAYA, Dec 13 — Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today he believes Singapore’s Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew has knowledge of the activities of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He was asked to comment on a newspaper report that the Singapore intelligence agency had confirmed the activities of the Malaysian opposition leader on the basis of “technical intelligence”.
“Yes, indeed. I think he (Lee) knows but the political parties are pretending they do not know about it,” he told reporters after delivering a talk on “Globalising Malaysians in 2020” at the Tenaga Nasional University, here.
Newspapers reported that the WikiLeaks non-profit media organisation exposed the matter based on information obtained from an intercepted cable of the US State Department dated November 2008.
Meanwhile, in his talk, Dr Mahathir said young Malaysians should cultivate a strong sense of resilience in facing up to the evils of globalisation.
According to him, openness did not mean that an individual must accept as right something which was not.
“If you are a Muslim, you must retain your responsibility and practices as a Muslim,” he said.
“Prepare yourself and your children with noble values from now. You must have your own interpretation of the meaning of globalisation to benefit from its good effects,” he said. — Bernama
