PUTRAJAYA, Oct 28 — The Court of Appeal dismissed today the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) bid to expunge the “torture” evidence by witness Sivanesan Tanggavelu in the ongoing inquest into the death of Teoh Beng Hock.
Sivanesan, an assistant company manager, had claimed that Selangor anti-graft officers had beaten him when he was taken in for questioning in a separate case last year.
The MACC had previously argued that Sivanesan's case had nothing to do with Teoh's and his evidence should not be allowed on record.
Teoh, 30, was found dead on a 5th-floor landing outside the Selangor MACC's office in Plaza Masalam, Shah Alam on July 16, a day before he was to register his marriage with his pregnant fiancee.
The political aide to a Selangor state lawmaker had been taken in for questioning by graft busters the day before to aid investigations into abuse of state funds.
His family and employer claim foul play was involved even though the pathologists who carried out his autopsy have said that the signs point to suicide.
