Malaysian-born Penny Wong is making headlines in Malaysia. Well, I guess we must be proud of the fact that Malaysia has 'exported' a capable woman to Australia.
Had Penny been born, raised and run for a parliamentary seat in Malaysia, would she have the opportunity to be the Finance Minister in BOLEH-land? I guess the answer is pretty obvious. ;)
Her appointment is also causing a buzz in Facebook.
Here is my two-cent comment in two 'Malaysian-born Penny Wong' related Wall postings in Facebook:
Just read an article in TMI today abt Alice Pung, now a writer and a lawyer, who was born in Australia in 1981, a month after her family fled from the killing fields of Cambodia. To a question, 'What's life is like in Australia, she answered, '...I was born here, and have never experienced racism growing up.'
Penny and Alice are just classic examples of how Australia, a WHITE dominant country that does not practice WHITE supremacy, let alone GENDER discrimination. I won't be surprised if one day Penny becomes the first Malaysian-born PM of Australia! ;)
