Anwar's trial: Application to disqualify judge

SODOMY II TRIAL: updated 11.35am The defence team in Anwar Ibrahim's sodomy trial has applied to disqualify the judge on grounds of 'bias'. This is in relation to earlier Utusan Malaysia reports on the hearing.

The two instances that triggered an application to disqualify the judge are:
1.
over the use of the word lagi in the headline of its front page report on Day 1 of the trial
2.
because of a subsequent caption on a caption on the front page.

Lead counsel Karpal Singh said Justice Mohamad Zabidin Md Diah had failed to initiate contempt proceedings against Utusan Malaysia, or even caution the Malay-language newspaper in the said two instances.
