PETALING JAYA: Regardless of who Barisan Nasional names as its candidate in the Hulu Selangor parliamentary by-election, Opposition alliance Pakatan Rakyat (PR) has "more or less" decided that it would go with a Malay candidate.
Despite his initial stance for a local ethnic Indian to stand in the by-election, Kapar MP S.Manikavasagam said he was now convinced that would be the right strategy for PR, after "giving it much thought".
He told The Malay Mail: "I was under the impression that Indians in Hulu Selangor might withdraw their support if we do not put an Indian candidate there. But, many like me, including Subang MP R. Sivarasa too, have changed their view on this." Manikavasagam explained that PR's political philosophy was not based totally on racial consideration in determining its candidates.

Why is race always a factor? What if there was a 'dan lain-lain' man or woman who is capable to serve the rakyat?
Nevertheless, so far, only PKR has proven to be the one party that is most 'multi-racial'.
