KUALA LUMPUR: Police are awaiting test results of blood and urine samples before deciding what charge should be made against a woman whose car slammed into a man in Cheras on Monday night.
City traffic police investigation and prosecution division head, DSP Abdullah Roning, said they had taken the woman’s statement after the incident as well as the samples on Tuesday morning.
“We’re checking if she was driving under the influence during the accident,” Abdullah said, adding the test results are expected early next week.
Shortly before the 10.45pm incident on Monday, the victim, Mohd Yusri Abdul Wahab, 32, had stopped at a petrol station in Taman Midah, Cheras. While his wife and child waited in their Proton Iswara, Mohd Yusri filled the car’s petrol tank.
He then walked back to the driver’s side and was about to get into the car when there was a loud screeching from the road beside the petrol station. In seconds, a white car, driven by the woman, came speeding in and crushed Mohd Yusri against his car.
Police believe the car may have skidded after it was involved in a collision with another car nearby.
The Iswara was sent flying to the other side of the pump, while Mohd Yusri’s wife, a nurse with University Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital, made it out of the vehicle and rushed to her husband’s aid.
The victim was taken to Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, where he died at 2.15am from severe head injuries. The wife and child sustained light injuries.
It is learnt the wife has since returned to her hometown in Kedah and is still traumatised. The other driver also suffered light injuries.
