SEPANG, April 4 (Bernama) -- The Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Hulu Selangor parliamentary by-election will be announced on Aprl 15, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
"The Prime Minister (Najib) has decided on the candidate and told me about it. So, it will be announced on April 15," he told reporters after watching the Formula One (F1) Petronas Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit, Sunday afternoon.
Muhyiddin, who declined further comment on the candidate, however, said that "Insyallah" the candidate would be accepted by the constituents.
On the one-day visit by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to the Hulu Selangor parliamentary constituency yesterday, Muhyiddin said Najib had told him that the 'mood' of the residents in the parliamentary constituency appeared to be good and 'it appears that the mood to come back and support the BN is more apparent'.
"So, we are hoping that there will be a change in momentum," he said.
The by-election for the Hulu Selangor parliamentary constituency is being held following the death of the incumbent representative Datuk Dr Zainal Abidin Ahmad from Parti Keadilan Rakyat on March 25 due to brain cancer.
The Election Commission on Friday announced that the by-election for the Hulu Selangor parliamentary constituency would be held on April 25 while nomination day would be April 17.
