Ethnic-based economic congresses rapped

Economic congresses could be good for obtaining public feedback, but in multi-ethnic Malaysia, such ethnic-based events are now being used as an avenue for political bargaining instead.

Organisers are now using such platforms to protect their own community's interests above others, laments Institute of Democracy and Economic Affairs chief executive Wan Saiful Wan Jan and commenting on the MCA-sponsored Chinese Economic Congress (CEC) last weekend, he said, "What was originally intended to discuss business affairs has turned into a bargaining tool (between ethnic communities and the government)."

 

Exactly! Why everything is seen through the ethnic lenses? Why focus on just a particular race? Chinese focus on Chinese only...why so stupid? If Malaysia became 'Cinasia', would it be problem free? Look at China lah! The Chinese there are still oppressed despite the economic progress.
