In an exclusive hour-long interview with Malaysiakini last week, it was reported that he appeared confident he could garner the required nominations by this weekend though his previous attempt for the vice-president's post in 2000 ended in failure. He also expressed hope that Umno members would want a mix of fresh and veteran leaders in the party. Syed Hamid will now join Hishammuddin Hussein, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Khaled Nordin dan Shafie Apdal in the battle for the three vice-president posts.
Syed Hamid also denied that his decision to ban Hindraf was to gain popularity in his bid for the vice-president’s post. Denial again. Will he be one of the three VPs come party polls in Mar 2009??
