Dr M: Power grab orchestrated by Najib. Najib-Altantuya di Penanti

Dr M says Perak grab unlawful
By Shannon Teoh
KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 — More than a month after Barisan Nasional ousted Pakatan Rakyat from Perak, former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today said the takeover was not done according to the law.

He said mistakes, bad strategy and carelessness in the Feb 5 power grab, orchestrated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, had led to the current crisis in the state.

Dr M and Lim Kit Siang were on the same page but why the police only took action against LKS?

Legally he has cleared his name (over Altantuya). BUT...Altantuya-Najib di Penanti

Quoting Dr M from an article entitled 'Najib 'did not shine' - Dr M':
"Legally he has cleared his name (over Altantuya). But whether people will perceive that he has cleared his name or not is something he cannot decide."
I am not legally trained but as far as I know (and I believe many like me as well), Najib has never cleared his name legally. Did he produce a Statutory Declaration?

Maybe we can give him the benefit of the doubt but then again like what Dr M said whether people will perceive that he has cleared his name or not is something he cannot decide.

For me, I perceive that he has never cleared his name. Period.

Raising Helen (2004)

Cell had Movie Night.

Even though it is an 'old' film, it is worth watching.

Plot taken from Wikipedia:
Raising Helen revolves around Helen Harris, whose successful fashion career and decent Manhattan lifestyle are plenty in terms of keeping her occupied and content. Helen's days as a socialite are brought to a swift end, however, when she is informed not only of the death of her sister, but of the decision to leave her three children in her care. Being one of New York's hippest matters little to 15-year-old Audrey, 10-year-old Henry, and five-year-old Sarah, who would much rather have their parents back. Convinced she can raise the kids and maintain her already fast-paced schedule, Helen quickly finds herself burnt out and disheartened by her older sister's lack of faith. Despite her already hectic schedule, however, Helen finds the time to develop a genuine affection for her new dependents, as well as an equally genuine attraction to Dan Parker, the kids' school principal and local Lutheran pastor. Eventually Helen realizes she can't balance the two lives, and is faced with a difficult decision: Does she live her old dreams and party when she has the chance or take a chance on a new one?

Four themes found in the film:
1. Success
2. Loss of a loved one
3. Hope
4. Family

Stop-work order issued as death toll rises to five. Kudos to Selangor MB Khalid for fast action

From The Star Online today:

PETALING JAYA: Another body has been recovered from the rubble of the collapsed Jaya Supermarket site, bringing the death toll to five.

The body - believed to be of an Indonesian worker - was brought out by rescue personnel at 1.05pm on Saturday.

Two more workers remained buried under the rubble.

On Thursday, the five-storey portion of the supermarket building collapsed right to the basement, where the car park was located, during demolition work.

Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha had announced on Friday that a task force comprising local council, police and Fire and Rescue Department would be formed to probe the collapse.

According to Malaysiakini, the Selangor stated government had issued a stop-word order yesterday after a briefing on the tragedy by MBPJ, Malaysian Public Works Institute (Ikram) and the Department of Occupational Safety and Hazard (Dosh) at the Selangor Economic Action Council meeting. The briefing revealed a serious lack of proper guidelines in monitoring the demolition of buildings.

Nizar vs Zambry: Zambry, (IL)LEGAL MB with WOES UNTOLD! Now, he is MB of the court!

Zambry has a new title - 'menteri besar of the court'.

Who gave him the title? Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

Of course, Zambry slammed Nik Aziz and said he should instead reserve the remark for Perak PAS Deputy Commissioner Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin. Reason being Mohammad Nizar initiated the court action to seek a declaration that he was the rightful menteri besar of Perak.

Poor Zambry, an (il)legal MB with woes untold!

Didn't Zambry know that when the High Court declared Nizar as the rightful MB, he immediately wanted to seek an audience with the Sultan to dissolve the assembly???

“So, the judiciary is right in saying it is legal,” Najib concluded.

He also claimed that that several international law experts had supported his view, including Queen’s Counsel Lord Anthony Lester of Herne Hill, who advises the British crown.

Nizar vs Zambry: No law exists to remove MB. So, Nizar remains MB.

By Deborah Loh

PUTRAJAYA, 21 May 2009: A chief minister or menteri besar (MB) cannot be removed even if the person fails a vote of no-confidence in the state legislative assembly, the Court of Appeal hearing the case to determine the rightful Perak MB was told today.

Lawyer Sulaiman Abdullah, who is representing Pakatan Rakyat (PR)'s embattled Perak MB Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin, said this was his conclusion from the 1966 Stephen Kalong Ningkan case, which resulted in the Sarawak constitution being amended through emergency legislation to allow the state governor to remove the chief minister.

In the Ningkan case, the court had ruled that the only way to determine whether a chief minister had lost the majority confidence of assemblypersons was by way of a vote in the Council Negri.

But Sulaiman told the appeals court judges today that because the judgment did not resolve Sarawak's crisis since Ningkan refused to resign, the federal government had imposed emergency rule on the state so as to institute amendments that gave the governor powers to remove the chief minister. The amended provisions lapsed after six months.
