Stop-work order issued as death toll rises to five. Kudos to Selangor MB Khalid for fast action

From The Star Online today:

PETALING JAYA: Another body has been recovered from the rubble of the collapsed Jaya Supermarket site, bringing the death toll to five.

The body - believed to be of an Indonesian worker - was brought out by rescue personnel at 1.05pm on Saturday.

Two more workers remained buried under the rubble.

On Thursday, the five-storey portion of the supermarket building collapsed right to the basement, where the car park was located, during demolition work.

Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha had announced on Friday that a task force comprising local council, police and Fire and Rescue Department would be formed to probe the collapse.

According to Malaysiakini, the Selangor stated government had issued a stop-word order yesterday after a briefing on the tragedy by MBPJ, Malaysian Public Works Institute (Ikram) and the Department of Occupational Safety and Hazard (Dosh) at the Selangor Economic Action Council meeting. The briefing revealed a serious lack of proper guidelines in monitoring the demolition of buildings.
