Six ex-judges paid more than 10.5 mil! - www.malaysiakini.com

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mohd Nazri Aziz revealed today that RM10.5 million was paid out by the government as ex-gratia payment to six ex-top judges who were sacked during the 1988 judicial crisis, including sacked Lord President Salleh Abas. Of this amount, RM5 million was paid to Salleh...Explaining why the six judges were still receiving pensions for the past 20 years despite being terminated from work, Nazri said the judges were "not sacked" but their services were stopped earlier than usual...“The government would like to recognise the contributions of these six judges to the nation, their commitment towards upholding justice and to acknowledge the pain and loss they have endured,” Nazri read from Abdullah’s speech on the reasons behind the ex-gratia payments. (Malaysiakini - '88 crisis: RM10.5 mil for 6 ex-judges)

Ok lah. We accept the explanation and reasons. Such a gracious government we have. Judges whose commitment towards upholding justice had their services prematurely terminated and getting paid for it. Makes a lot of sense indeed! Pain and loss can be bought. Money, a powerful tool!
