The government today announced a RM7 billion stimulus package to bolster the economy in face of a global financial crisis. Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak tabled the package when winding up the debate on the 2009 Budget for the Finance Ministry at the Dewan Rakyat. For starters, the government will give workers the option to reduce their contribution to the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) by three percent (from the current 11% to 8%) for two years beginning next January. "A person with a salary of RM2,000 a month will get RM60 extra in disposable income, while someone earning RM6,000 will get an additional disposable income of RM180 a month," said Najib. I don't know much about economics but I know RM60 will alleviate a bit of my financial strain. Better than nothing, right? RM60 'extra' can pay for 3/4 tank of petrol. What else...I can buy 2 packets of Mamy Poko size M (44 pcs) after topping up another RM15. Ahh, my streamyx bill...ok, I need to top up another RM6. Hmm...what else, what else...why suddenly so hard to think? RM60!
