The returning officer for the Kuala Terengganu by-election has stepped down following complaints that he has campaigned for Barisan Nasional.

Wan Mustafa is also the city council secretary.

The by-election on Saturday is a three-cornered contest among Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh of BN, Mohd Abdul Wahid Endut of PAS and independent candidate Azharudin Mamat @ Adam.

Terengganu PAS deputy commissioner Wan Mutalib Embong had claimed yesterday that Mat Razali had abused his position to influence his 500 council staff to vote for BN.

"His action is highly unethical, we have proof," Wan Mutalib had said, adding that Mat Razali should be removed to ensure a clean and fair election.

PAS has lodged a report with the Election Commission and the police.

The PKR Youth wing had also lodged a police report on the matter, claiming that Mat Razali had threatened his staff to vote for BN.

Good lah, at least this fellow did the right thing but what does a returning officer do? Returning votes to BN? Can anyone tell me? The EC should educate the public more lah.

Own choice without fear of any stick
